Hello, I was wondering if someone could help me with this..I have an HP dv9500 and recently i ran the HP update and I had an update which says NVIDIA GeForce 8400/8600 GS Video Driver. (which says : this package contains the video/graphics driver for the NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS and 8600 GS. Graphics in the supported model and operating system. PURPOSE : Routine). I have downloaded and installed this update. However when I restart my computer i run HP update again and it still says that I need to download and install that same update...I have installed about 3 times and it still tells me that i need to install it..and I have also gone to the HP website and downloaded/install but nothing..the hp update still tells me i have this update to install...does anybody have this problem? any suggestions? any help would be appreciated.

I had problems too installing it, whenever I installed the HP drivers windows kept saying there was a newer driver available and installed it's own. I don't have HP update installed anymore, it was starting to annoy me. If I need a driver I will let windows update handle it or just go directly to the webpage for my specific notebook.

Mine won't go away either. When it first popped up, I installed it, and when I restarted my computer, it was still there. So I thought the same thing, "maybe it didn't download?" So, I did it again, but only this time it said, "download failed." And its still there. lol! I've ignored it ever since.

I gave it one more shot last night and it worked. This was after I had filled out HP's survey they had sent to my inbox, where I stated that I've had recent troubles with their updates.... I believe it was just coincidence though.

I disabled then deinstalled the HP Update and simply go out and look periodically and manually install whatever I choose to install.

BTW, most of the drivers on an HP laptop can usually be backed out to what was shipped with the PC by using the ones under C:\SwSetup, allowing recovery from a bad "upgrade".

This may have been a problem with the updates installer. I have had a few driver update issue's in general where the installer doesn't enter the exact correct version number and thats what generates said problem with the updater application. Because i t doesn't exactly match the version the updater is given...
This can usually be fixed by adjusting the version number in your registry or in the ini file of the drivers if one is present.

So what's the solution to this NVIDIA GeForce update? I believe there was a thread about video driver update, but I can't find it. Can anyone post a link or a solution.

I currently have v7.15.11.145 runing on my dv9500. On the HP web site v7.15.11.145A is available. I've been having the same issue as above even with a manual install. I'm thinking of uninstalling the old driver first then installing the new one instead of letting the wizard do the uninstall, any thoughts, links, solutions?

    Thanks in advance,

This is driving me nuts, I still can't install the new driver. I manually uninstalled the old drvier v7.15.11.145, rebooted the system. Installed the new driver v7.15.11.145A rebooted system.

When goto Control Panel->System->Device Manager->Display Adapters->Nvidia GeForce 8600M GS->Properties->Driver Tab the driver version is still v7.15.11.145!

Can someone point me in the right direction for a fix please. I would like to get the latest and greatest version of video drivers for NVIDIA 8600M GS.

    Thanks!

    Hi guys!

I own almost the same laptop as you, except mine is a dv9575ep!
From what I have seen, the specs are the same!

Regarding you're questions about those "two" driver versions, isn't there the possibility of them being the same?
Not that I'm an expert on these matters (more or less the opposite), but I don't think that NVIDIA's new releases don't increase the driver actual number!

Please correct me if I'm wrong!

HP update is considered bloatware to me. For video drivers use www.laptopvideo2go.com you might need to test out a few different ones as some work better and some might not work at all/

For hp drivers use the website specific to your model.

Unfortunatly I can't understand a single thing about that site!
I don't know it's concept, wich drivers to chose, wich are compatible with my card, nothing!
I've read so many posts in that site in the past 6 months and still I feel completely lost!

yeah the site is a little confusing and tempermental. It pays off when you get it right though.

If your not using your laptop for gaming, have you tried windows driver update (not hp update) or the actual nvidia website?
