Here are my thoughs on that.

If they actually schedule a whole nationwide conference call to discuss the new Envy 17 then for sure we are talking for a complete refresh of the line (besides the Sandy Bridge, ATI 6850 and the CoolSense that they are already confirmed). A refresh similar to what Sony just did for their F series laptops, including a completely new design and everything.

Second if changes only includes the Sandy Bridge, new graphic card and the CoolSense the there is absolute no need for the nationwide conference call and I will personally put this on the wild rumors section.

Only time will tell wich scenario is the correct one.

Hmmm, nice theory. Well, if they make major changes, of course let it be more powerful, but I do hope the sexy, slim, sleek look remains ...or still resembles it to a major degree....

Ha if they make it glossy im buying their old model, i don't even care if sandy bridge isn't in it.

I don't want to buy another fingerprint and dust magnet! Sick of that material.

Hmmm, really? I kinda like the fingerprint thing on the DV7 I have from Costco...its for us lazy people, lol :p but seriously littleark94, why don't you like the fingerprint reader? You think its just a dust magnet? (sarcasm) hahha

Please tell me that this was just a bad joke and you know that he was talking about how glossy laptops get covered in fingerprints easily.

Opps, I misread that. I thought little was talking about the fingerprint reader which I like...yeah of course glossy finish would suck. I love the way the Envy looks...the only thing I would have changed is make the metal lighter in color! Add some golds, silver.... brighter is more sophisticated than a darker metal. The Envy as is looks better with plenty of light shining on its metal case, otherwise in a low lit room its not as beautiful.

P.S. I still missed the fingerprint reader on the Envy 17 3D....

Sorry if my post was misleading. The conference call isn't just about the ENVY. The conference call is supposed to be where all of the store (i.e. Bestbuy) reps get together with the higher-ups to discuss the new products coming out in the near future. He told me from what he understands, one of the topics will be the SB Envy.

Well but lets hope there would be a Bluray ROM on Envy 14(Basic) and a writer for Envy 17 and more importantly utilization of switchable graphics which would be a great deal :)

so there is no information whatever from HP; this is an internal Best Buy conference call, and if the Best Buy upper management knows something about the SB Envy, perhaps they will pass it down to the minions. But just because the BB higher ups get together to talk about the SB Envy doesn't mean any new info will come. Lets hope it will, however. That said, what you could do for us here, Jeff5886, is keep an eye on the Best Buy inventory system for new SKU numbers!

Best Buy, really?  I'd be very curious to know the deal/meeting is about. I'm just saying because I have not seen any Envy 14, Envy 15, or Envy 17 for that matter at the local Best Buys...at all... :( So is there a slim chance that Best Buy will actually display the new SB edition Envy line in their stores? I would be the first in line to take a look and play around with them....my local Best Buy is literally in walking distance from my apt!!!!

I wonder, but most likely it just might be on their website to order...still...I would really love to play with the systems if at the local Best Buy......Let's see what Thursday's meeting brings. :)

Well, yes the local BB's here don't cary Envy either. I think we're reading too much into this -- so a bunch of sales managers get together inside BB for a conference call. I'm sure those happen all the time and I'm sure the subject of Envy will come up because it's a hot topic. But that doesn't mean any new information from HP will be a part of it. Given how HP communicates product announcements (really, has HP EVER used BB to leak an availability annoucement?), It's hard to imagine that anything new will be revealed, save perhaps BB's strategy for selling the SB Envy when it appears.

    6 months...Jan 24...Jan 20...3 months...February... May... . lol

    Guys...

Best buy isn't involved in the phone conference. My local Best Buy as a HP rep that frequently comes by. He is the one that told me that the HP reps and higher up's are having the conference call.

ok so you have an "hp rep buddy" and proceed to tell us of a "nationwide confernece call" to discuss SB Envy. This is so lacking in credible information that we begin probing further...

Ok now you tell us that the all of the store reps (with BB as an example) get together with "the higherups" on this "nationwide conference call". We presume you mean the Nation of the United States. But Since HP doesn't make announcement via conference calls, and given your BB example, we started to think that this was an internal BB thing...

ok now you say that BB is not involved, but aparently HP's rep that serves your local BB told you of the nationwide conference call that doesn't involve BB at all, but is something internal to the HP sales force. Why would he do that? what is your status in BB or the HP rep that would give us the confidence that this is believable?

Its certainly true that the HP sales force might have a conference call to meet together and discuss sales strategies and communications. I'm sure that happens on a regular basis. But if that information isn't foggy enough, you are still saying that this is coming from an HP best buy rep but that best buy is not involved. He just "came by" and voila you have inside information.

So just because HP sales reps get together on a phone conference doesn't mean anything. I'm sure they have already discussed Sandy Bridge Envy because that is a hot topic. But HP has already stated (via "molly athp" facebook) to expect the SB Envy around the end of February, so to hear that some group of HP sales reps are getting together to discuss this in the context of the retail sales channel it is not really that newsworthy.

Jeff5886 I would ask you to tell us some more details in order for this to be considered real information and not just some troll. You sign-up here for the purpose of telling this rumor, but we don't know what your affiliation is with best buy, nor do we have the confidence that the 'HP rep' of which you speak, will dutifully come back to you as some focal point of this grand announcement -- because you already said BB was not involved. So you are implying you have some affiliation with Best Buy (are you a sales person?) with some clandenstine relationship with an HP rep that you claim will give you priveledged information.

At this point I just can't buy into this because there is just too much sensational intrigue here and not enough credible information hang my hat on. But you could really add to the credibility score here by giving us some reason to know (1) why you signed up here to give this rumor (2) why you are in this position of inside information (3) what you do for Best Buy and (4) why the 'HP rep buddy" would give you this information!

    that would be most helpful

Funny thread. Most HP (and all other key players) laptops will be getting a SB refresh in the upcoming months and should be available for order no later than April, lol. Some of the new machines will be shown at CeBit others will emerge silently :)

My brother gives me any info he gets from this in-store HP rep at his work also. So far nothing about a new ENVY but a new shell on the G and DV line are likely.

lets give the guy some time here folks. Last nights "nation wide teleconference" was internal to the HP sales team, and the HP informant/member of this HP sales team may not have had time to contact his friend Jeff5886 regarding the content of that meeting. Moreover, there was no guarantee (only HP rep buddy's opinion) that SB Envy 17 release dates would be discussed, or even if they were , if such dates could be released and if HP would choose to leak them in this way. If Jeff5886 joined this forum for something other than to troll, then we will see more than his current six posts, even if the message is "sorry guys my HP rep buddy values his job and won't say" or "there's nothing new" or even "HP rep buddy disappeared"
