HP Update stopped working after I upgraded to Vista SP1. Has anybody installed a newer version of HP Update after upgrading to SP1? How did you do it? I know the HP SP1 FAQ has some instructions for this. I’m looking for input from someone who has actually upgraded this software successfully.

I have never used HP update - don't think it ever worked on either of my desktops. You don't need to depend on it - Windows Update will get you the critical stuff and then I go to the OEM for the rest (Intel, nVidia, etc).

I would recommend not using HP Update and going so far as uninstalling it. It's pretty much a waste of resources. You can get updates manually through support.hp.com.

I used to think HP Update was worthless, too, until I manually updated for the BIOS update that helps with the overheating problem. Manually updating looked like it worked OK but I did not get any benefit. Once I did the update through HP Update, the BIOS update actually started working to cool things down. I can't explain why this was true but I am glad I did not delete HP Update after all.

BTW, never use Microsoft update to update hardware drivers. As the previous poster said, go to your vendor's site. Search the archives for stories about the driver updates from MS screwing up PCs.
