I recently have been searching for a budget notebook pc. I started by going to gateway, dell and some other places. I decided on the dell inspiron 1100. I was all set on ordering it and was hype about getting it until i found a HP Pavilion ze4610us for $750 after mail in rebate. I think I got a good deal. It has a 1.87gHZ athlon, 64MB Radeon Mobility card, 256 RAM, a DVD/CD-RW drive, and 15 inch screen. Dell would have givin me a pc with the same specs (except I wouldn't be able to play games and Dell has a smaller screen) for $836.00. I think I got a better deal on a better system. What do ya'll think about my new computer.

Your choice is good, HP assumes most people will forget to send in their rebates when buying these laptops, and they secretly hope that you do [ ;)] On average, only 30% of people send in for rebates even if they're enticed into buying a laptop based on that rebate so if you're smart enough to actually send the rebate in then often times you'll get a great deal...as you did in this case. With a budget notebook you'll often be limited on what you can upgrade on it...no modular bays for swapping in different optical drives and the notebook weight is usually heavier than sleeker more expensive machines, but if it suits your needs then who's to argue!

    enjoy the new laptop.

Welcome to the HP world. I have to agree with abaxter, so make sure you send your rebates back in :) Also In general, from what I have been reading and seeing the build quality of the HP's seem to be much better as of late. If both laptops had met your needs you probally would have been fine either way. Keep us all up to date with your good times and bad times (hopefully there are no bad times) with your new laptop.
    Enjoy
