Hi,
I am planning to buy a HP Compaq 8510p. It is an unused opened open box item. The computer has never left the box, I was wondering if I bought the laptop right now the standard 3-year warranty period would begin now. Thanks.

The standard warranty begins once the laptop was shipped out to the first buyer. There is nothing that can be done about that.

You can always call HP and ask them... -
If the person you're buying from is an authorised distributor, they can have the warranty dates reset as long as a proof of purchase, i.e. invoice or receipt is issued. Otherwise, the warranty starts within 2 weeks of delivery of the laptop from the factory.

Thanks guys. However I am now at a conundrum. I am having trouble deciding between the before mentioned and a refurbished 8510p:
Open Box $750 USD
T7300 2GHz
1GB RAM
1 year + warranty
Refurbished $690 USD
T7700 2.4GHz
2GB RAM
1 year warranty from HP
All other specs are virtually identical. All other possible elements are known and are irrelevant. Thanks.
