Is anyone using their built in HP Webcam to do video chat/conferencing? What programs work?
I use Trillian Pro for instant messaging and the video works sometimes. Other times I will open QuickPlay and the webcam will not work, and I'm pretty sure it is because of Trillian Pro. And sometimes Trillian just won't work with the webcam. I've tried Camfrog but it involves everyone using a different program (not aim) and the video was extremely grainy.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

I don't think it's Trillian Pro, as I'm a Trillian Pro user...I think it's bad drivers by HP.
As for suggestions...I think we need to wait for a decent driver. -
on my pc this inconsistency cycles whenever the pc goes to standby. so it works after startup, then after going to standby it doesnt, then after standby again it does etc etc...
probably something about the driver/hardware initialization when powered up. -
have you tried skype?
-
skype works fine for me, but you'll need a pretty decent internet connection to keep the video smooth. the webcam also works fine when used in MSN messenger through video conference. i've never been able to get any webcam to work with aim, and i dont plan to, so i dont really worry about that.
after i downgraded to XP, it showed the webcam as a usb camera device in my computer so i go there to test it out with pictures and what not.
havent got it working with quickplay yet, not sure if i plan to mess with it at all... -
I alternate between Skype and YM with voice on my dv9207us. Webcam's funtioning okay.

Have you ever heard of YouCam? It's a solid piece of software to power your web cam. If you're looking to get your internal web cam working with instant messaging programs, you should have a look at this because it works with Windows Live, Skype, Yahoo messenger, and AOL instant messenger.
Here's some more information about YouCam web cam software if you're interested. You might be surprised as to what this nifty application can do when compared to the software that came bundled with your existing web cam.
