Hey,
I recently bought a new mini-pci card for my dv6000 and i got the 104 error because of HP's whitelist.
I know i need to hack the bios or change the ID of the card.
Which is easier (and safer) and where can i find a tutorial ?
Thanks![]()

No way to get around the 104 error in the new HPs unless you get an older HP. I have tried every way possible and the bios is dynamic - in that it's changed by the system. There's updates done to it by the system and it't not an exact copy of the flash version.
To see if the new card worked, I actually powered up the HP and put it in sleep mode and switched in the Gigabyte card with the Atheros chip set and it has twice the range of the HP card. All signals incresed by 2 bars. -
KAJ, are you implying that after you switched in the Gigabyte card while the unit was in sleep mode, that you were able to continue using it after a shutdown and restart? ...or did you get the 104 error when you rebooted?

Neat trick KAJ. Not a recommended trick, but neat.
geebekazoo: no, he means that by using suspend/resume he was able to bypass the BIOS whitelist check. He'd have to remove the card in order to reboot.
I tested an old Toshiba notebook with an Atheros card. It found several neighboring wireless AP's that I'd never seen before. Way, way better than the Broadcom and Intel cards HP uses. If there's anything that's going to get me to switch notebook vendors it's this idiotic whitelist!
