Hello, I have an HP dv9720us that originally has Windows Vista 32-bit.
I have a Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit upgrade key available, and I wanted to use it on my computer and do a clean install on the computer. The only problem is, on the HP website, there are only Windows Vista 32/64bit drivers. I believe the AMD turion 64 x2 is compatible with the 64-bit OS, and I was wondering if the Vista 64-bit would work for the windows 7 64bit drivers.
I was also wondering if I would have to re-create the recovery partition to be compatible for the Windows 7 OS... and how would I do that?

Generally you can use the Vista 64bit drivers and 9 times out of 10 they will work.
Since it doesn't appear that particular model is a gaming machine, you can probably get away with generic drivers if the Vista 64bit drivers don't work.
Its all a matter of how much you're willing to dig to get working drivers.
As far as re-creating the recovery partition goes, I'm not aware of any way to do that. -
Thanks for the quick response! I had a feeling that the Vista 64 drivers would likely be compatible with Windows 7.
Does anyone know how I can get the HP recovery partition to be compatible for the Windows 7 OS? I just need to set it so that I can use it to recover w/o the discs for Windows 7. -
If you can't get your recovery partition working (or find a way to create a new one), you could always create an image of your drive and put that on a separate partition. After you install drivers/Windows updates, run a program such as Norton Ghost, or Acronis True Image, and have it create a disc image and either store it on a second partition on your hard drive, or an external hard drive. Then if you ever needed to use that image in the future, you could just load that image onto the main partition using the same programs.
