Awesome forum and website, thank you for the service.

Based on the research I have done primarily in this website, I have decided to go with the HP ZD7000 series. I am asking for commentary to push me off the fence and buy one that is a refurb. (instead of going with new). This is for a desktop replacement and not frequent mobility. Use will be web surfing, play music, occasional DVD watching.

Found this refurb for $1,350.00 (zd7030us):

    Processor - Intel® Pentium® 4 processor 3.06GHz
Operating system - Windows XP Media Center
    Memory - 512MB DDR SDRAM (2 x 256MB) at 333MHz
    Graphics - NVIDIA® GeForce™ FX Go5600 with 128MB DDR SDRAM dedicated
Hard drive - 80GB Enhanced IDE
    Primary CD/DVD drive - DVD+R/RW and CD-RW combo drive
    Display - 17.0" WXGA+ WVA TFT (1440 x 900) display
    Wireless connectivity - Broadcom 54g™ MaxPerformance 802.11g

    Concerns:
    1. It is a refurb.
    2. The display does not indicate Brightview. Big deal or not?
    3. HP will issue awesome deals on brand new products. (right now is $100 off + $50 rebate + free ship on new customized zd7000's that expires 12/31/04)

Am I missing something obvious with this refurb???....seems like a great deal when priced out vs. new.

    Thanks for your help.

for what it's worth, EVERY single piece of refurbished electronic equipment I've had has gone bad within a couple months of owning it...but maybe that's just my bad luck

a question you need to answer for yourself is how much is peace of mind and a warranty worth to you? i'm not sure what the warranty is on this refurb, if it's less than a year, avoid it. if a manufacturer is willing to back up there refurb with a 1-year warranty then i'd do it.

I've had bad luck with refurb electronics too...but alot of people say its worth it. Just make sure there is some kind of warranty.
