I spoke to a Belkin Rep at CompUSA before ordering my ZD8000 from HP shopping. (Luckily he was setting up in the store while I was shopping.) He told me that if I ordered the computer with an wireless A,B or G network card already installed,...that when I installed the wireless Pre-N card into the PC card slot, I would only see an 20% overall increase from wireless G. However if I did not have an wireless card installed with the computer,...By having the Wireless Pre-N router and adding the Pre-N network card, I would see an 800% wider coverage and an 600% greater speed than regular wireless G.
I also spoke with several of our IT pro's (who suggested the Pre-N) about the claim's made by Belkin. They swear by it. They tell me with "G" they were always getting calls about dropped signals. Now they say that they install the cards and have no more problems.
I have purchased the router and network card. I have always been a Linksys fan. But I could not believe how simple it was to set up the Belkin router. A CHILD WHO CAN READ AT A SIXTH GRADE LEVEL WILL HAVE NO TROUBLE SETTING THIS UP. The software from the CD Belkin supplies checks out your system and configures everything by itself. I cannot speak yet about the Laptop network card,....as the Laptop I ordered shipped out from China yesterday and I am expecting it next week.
However,...I just wanted to let those folks who are interested in Pre-N to be aware that they should not order a laptop with a pre-installed wireless network card or you will loose the full benefits of Pre-N.
