    Hello all and happy holidays,
I have a zd8000 which I love. I bought it (almost) exclusively as a desktop replacement, but have found that every couple of months I would like to use it on my 4 hour plane trip to watch movies. The problem is that the standard battery only lasts 1 hour, so it's not worth lugging the thing around for an hour of entertainment.

The unit has a button on it that reads DVD, leading me to believe that there is an operating mode that only uses the DVD fnctionality rather than booting up the whole system to save batteries. I have not been able to figure out how this works so any advice on whether or not it actually has this capability, how to use it if it does, and if it doesn't, any advice on power management so that I can get it to run for more than 1 hour.

    Thanks,
    Heath

I know some HP's have something called Quickplay where you can watch DVD's without actually booting up the computer. This does of course save some power. I'm not sure if the zd8000 has that as an option or not. There is another site called www.zd8000forums.com that might be able to give you this information. Good luck!

I think the QuickPlay feature is exclusive to the dvXXXX line only. It zd8000's successor, the dv8000z, has the QuickPlay feature. Unfortunately, the zd8000 doesn't have this feature.
