    Hi,

I'm having two problems with my ZD8060 (both of which naturally occured after the warranty expired) and Im trying to decide if I can repair the problems myself or not. I routinely build my own desktop computers so I'm pretty familiar with computer parts but I've never opened up a laptop.

The most recent problem is that my screen suddenly went bad. The regular display is there, but now there are these white lines and boxes all over there screen. I noticed when this first happened I had the laptop tilted at an angle, but when I put it flat on the table the problem went away temporarily. The problem resurfaced and no amount of tilting fixes it. The fact that it did at first makes me think that there is a loose wire or connection. Does that sound like the problem, and does anyone know of any guides to opening this laptop up?

My second problem has been around for a long time, and that is that it doesnt charge the battery and it doesnt run on battery power. I've replaced both the battery and the power adapter, so I'm pretty sure this isn't the problem, so I'm 90% sure its the motherboard. Any idea what the problem could be on the motherboard specifically, and is this something that can be repaired?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Try connecting the laptop to an external monitor. If it works fine on the external then your problem lies with the LCD/cable. If you notice it on the external as well then most likely a bigger issue wrt the graphics card.

As for the second issue, it might be the power adaptor on the motherboard might have become loose/un-soldered which was a common occurane in old HP notebooks. Maybe this is causing the battery not to charge.
