    Hi Everyone,

I want to put this question to those in the know. I have no clue now which to get. I thought the HP zt3000 had PC2700 RAM plus I could get a 5400rpm HDD. However, I have learned tonight (via HP) that the zt3000 comes with PC2100 RAM only. So, now I need some more info before I make my final decision. There is one other notebook I have as a second runner up with PC2700 RAM but only a 4200rpm HDD.

So here's my question without brand consideration:
Which one is better to get a notebook with slower RAM at PC2100/faster HDD at 5400rpm OR faster RAM at PC2700/slower HDD at 4200rpm?

    Thank you in advance.

Get the one with PC2700 RAM, then swap out its HD for a Hitachi 7200RPM drive [ :D]. An awful lot of us zv5000z owners have done that.

Thanks, but I am not much for tinkering with computers or really have the time. I really want the notebook to come with all I need already in it fresh out of the box. This is why I have the dilemna.

Also, I do not want to look at any other notebook brands. I have been looking for over two months and they are just too numerous. I have narrowed down to these two and going to stick with them. However, thanks for the ABS suggestion (have not heard of them before).

Which notebook appeals to you the most? It's probably the ZT3000 since that's the notebook you were about to buy. I had an NX7000 (same as the ZT3000, but their Business model) and it came with a 4200rpm HDD and PC2100 memory. I thought it ran fine, but wished it had a faster HDD. So, I'd recommend getting the PC2100 & 5400rpm HDD. You can upgrade the ram at a later time when you need more memory.

OK, I did go look at the ABS. Nice system, but when spec'ed the way I wanted it was out of my budget plus I do not want to add any more systems to the list. I will never make a decision.

Thanks VB. A co-worker suggested the same. I really appreciate all the help I have received via this forum.

I finally got to test out both systems in Best Buy tonight. I did not realize the HP was in the stores until reading this forum. It turns out that I like the HP over the Toshiba M35 (the runner up). The HP was cooler, and the speakers were actually better (tested a music CD)even though they are both Harman. I typed up a test document on both without problems. The keyboards on both seemed OK to me (Toshiba's seemed more sturdy, but HP's held well and felt nice too). I wanted to see the different resolutions in person before ordering too. So many suggested and/or ordered the middle or highest resolution. It turns out I like the 1280x800 resolution the best. The 1680x1050 res is very small (saw it on the zd 17" model). Where this that may work for watching DVD's, it is no good for programming and the type of work I will be doing with it. And the highest res at 1980x?? must be REALLY TINY.

So again my thanks to all.
