I've just bought a HP Pavilion ZV5000 Laptop with no power adaptor!

Would I be able to use a Compaq R3000z power supply as currently I am unable to find a ZV5000 power supply in the UK.

    Your help is greatly appreciated.

    Ben

Check out this UK Ebay search.

    http://search.ebay.co.uk/ZV5000_W0QQfltZ9QQfsooZ1QQfsopZ1QQsaatcZ3QQsbrexpZWD2SQQssPageNameZWD2S

These are items for the zv5000 available to the UK. Currently it lists 2 power supplies and I think it says that it's for the R3000 as well.

Yes. Well, 99.9% certain at least. They're basically the same machines except for cosmetics and speakers, and even the P4 versions use the same power bricks as the Athlons (though they had to switch to higher capacity bricks to handle the newer P4 blast furnaces).

    Excellent, thanks brianstretch

One more thing is there a particular reason why the generic HP chargers you find on eBay etc... don't support the ZV5000?

Make sure that it supports the 100 - 240 Volt input range. Most power supplies these days do.

Then you need to get a different power cable from the outlet to the PS or just cut off the plug and add a UK one. Another option is to find a plug converter that tourist use.

Like I said the PS should be able to handle 100 to 240 VAC. Just check with the seller to make sure.

Then all you need is a new power cable which most electronic stores have or a plug replament (cut off US plug and add UK one).

As far as a converter goes you do not need one that convertes the voltage, just one that plugs into your UK outlet and lets you plug in the US cable. Something like this http://www.laptoptravel.com/Product.aspx?ID=1062

But that's only needed if you do not want to get a new cable or have the plug replaced.

I've found some convertors on ebay but their only 100watts. Will this be too little wattage?
