Hi Guys,
I would like to know if any of you have experienced slowness/"lag" on the ZV5000Z--Athlon 64 3200+, 512mb x 1, 40 gb 4200 RPM, GeForce440. Before I returned this laptop, from minute 1 the laptop's performance seemed much slower than a standard desktop or comparable P4 Laptop from HP; the benchmarks weren't fast either. I've used demos from the stores and I don't know if it's just me, but the whole computer seemed very slow from startup to daily usage of programs. I can only hope my ZV6000 won't have this problem. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

No such problems here, but then I swapped in a Hitachi 7200RPM HD and did a full WinXP reinstall without all of HP's "extras" cluttering things up immediately after receiving my zv5000z. Try to configure a 5400RPM drive with your zv6000.
Some people have had problems with zv5000z/R3000z machines getting stuck at 800MHz. I fixed it but good by using CrystalCPUID to manage power settings, undervolting while I was at it. -
I haven't noticed that with my laptop. The drive is a little slow, but I'm comparing my 4200 rpm drive to my 7200 rpm drives on my desktop. Once something is loaded and running, it's pretty zippy. The only thing close to a benchmark that I've run has been the calculation of pi to the 2 millionth place, which took 2'3" on battery, and 1'58" on AC. Compared to the others that replied to the thread, it was comparable to other laptops in its class.
The best thing I did to make sure it was speedy was get rid of Norton. On both my laptop and my desktop, it was a resource hog. I'm using AVG on my laptop and Avast on my desktop.

I guess it was the slow hard drive and my laptop did get stuck in 797 mhz when i would check teh system control panel. It would rarely get above that, except under "extreme" conditions. I'm just going to keep my fingers crossed regarding the ZV6000.

MobileMeter
CrystalCPUID
I run both from my Startup folder. I set my Power Scheme to Always On and let CrystalCPUID manage speed and voltage. On most Athlon 64's, you can run 1GHz @ 0.875V, 1.4GHz @ 1V, and full speed @ 1.3V, which is quite a bit more efficient than the default voltage levels. The Mobile-class Athlon 64 I swapped in does better than that, full speed @ 1.225V, effectively making it a Low Voltage-class CPU. My power brick is only slightly warm, barely enough to tell that it's in use.Last edited by a moderator: May 5, 2015 -

Stock settings are 800MHz @ 0.95V, 1.6GHz @ 1.3V (or is it 1.4V?), and full speed @ 1.5V. Going from 1.5V to 1.3V cuts max CPU power consumption almost in half. HUGE difference. Of course, if you're spending most of your time at 800MHz, it only helps a little bit. Still, when you do need CPU power, cutting back the max burn rate that much is nice. Much less heat output.
You could say that this is still using PowerNOW!, just not the standard (and overly conservative IMHO) PowerNOW! profile. -
back to the real issue though, does anyone see the lag/slowness that I am speaking of or am I just crazy?
