The HP ZV6000 is now available on HP's site, but it only comes with the 128mb radeon xpress 200M unfortunately. It also appears to be missing some of the options it was supposed to have including some options that the ZV5000 had.

yeah, i noticed that you can't get the high res screen, or the dual layer dvd drive. I was waiting for the R4000z to come out, but I hope it doesn't lack the options like this. I can build a R3000z with xp pro, dual layer dvd writer, and the WSXGA+ (1680x1050), and it is still cheaper than the zv6000 without those. the zv6000 would come with a 3200 amd 64 opposed to a 3000 on the compaq, and it has a ati graphics card with more memory, opposed to the nvidia.

I don't want to wait too late and get stuck with a lower amount of options with the r4000z, so I might order the r3000z soon, and return it if the r4000z comes out soon and has what i want.

Wow, HP ruins a potentially perfect amd notebook AGAIN with crappy graphics card, processor, and (for the first time) LCD options. I might have to start looking seriously into getting a dell again...

I am not sure whether you got your 9300. IMO, it is truely a piece of crap. I#12288;am returning it. Its LCD display sucks big time. If you read anything on it for 10 min, you feel your eyes is gonna pop out.

Ok, for all you people who are talkin trash about the new HP zv6000: What you might not realize when you're trying to decide between your pentium piece of crap with a good graphics card or the HP AMD notebooks is that your Intel Dell is going to be horribly outdated within a year and a half, and here is why; the new HP zv6000 comes with the option of the AMD Athlon DTR 3500+ - this chip is the newest 939 pin architecture available from AMD, so new in fact, that AMD hasn't even updated their "Athlon 64 for Notebooks" page with its info yet- you have to go digging on their site for a model comparison and you will see just how it stacks up to the Desktop Athlon 64 line (3800+ and up). What this means is that when Windows XP 64bit comes out later in the year, any of you with pentiums are screwed, plain and simple. (=Advantage #1 for HP AMD Notebook). Secondly, the graphics card released with the zv6000 is no run-of-the-mill ATI card, it is the ATI Radeon Xpress 200M. This card is one of the first to be specifically designed for the AMD Athlon 64 processor. So not only is it specially configured to work symbiotically with the entirety of the Notebook components, it is also PCI-Express enabled, which means that even if it is only 128mb now, the PCI capabilities infer that it will be upgradeable well into the future - thus their purpose in teaming this card with this specific processor. Oh, and if any of you Intel-lites are still doubting chip superiority, the 3500+ runs @ 1Ghz Hyptertransport bus compared to all of the Intel chips measly 800Mhz(except the EE, which when considered, is ridiculously priced next to the more than reasonable 3500). Not to mention the 3500+ is the 90nm Winchester core design, which is much more stable than its 130nm Newcastle Desktop sibling. So, with all things considered (price included), I believe the all around power and efficiency of the 3500 (and zv6000 in turn) paired with the latest ATI PCI-Express card is a notebook that is hard to defeat. BTW, I'll let you know what some real benchmarks are once my zv6000 gets here in a few weeks, but if you want to see some early tests, check out any of the site links I left here. Oh yeah...one more thing, try to deck out ANY notebook with the options I have on the ZV (DVD-RW,Wireless bluetooth,60gig 5400, 1G Ram, 12cell Battery) and keep the price under 1900$...with free shipping...cause thats what I'm paying. Have fun with your 32bit chips....Suckers.

64-bit WinXP is already out... if you're a MSDN subscriber. The rest of us should see it by the end of this month. No word on whether HP will offer it preinstalled but I'd assume they will.

Yes, I got the truelife, or truecrap as somebody else calls. The light leakage at the bottom is so hugh that it covers almost 20% of the screen. Anything black looks greyish with patches. Besides no matter how you ajust the font size, it just looks so blur that makes your feel dizzy.

That is really the main reason why I returned it. Another reason is I could not believe how slow it is. It is slower than my 5 year-old toshiba. I guess that is partially because Dell installed so many junks in it. I know how to clean it up but didn't bother because of the eye-killing display.

I am glad you like your i9300 but I think I will buy a HP zd8000. My friend has a zv5000. Its display is truely amazing.

I like AMD better but that rant about your computer is kind of lame. 64bit computing will not be main stream for at least a couple years and I will have a new computer by then. As far as the PCI Graphics card I was under the impression that even with that they are still sodered to the board and not upgradable. I don't know the stats for the x200 but I would think not that great, It would just be nice if HP would let out an AMD 64 system with the top of the line Notebook Video card, that is why people are not happy. Dell offers the GeForce 6800, and I don't like Dell but thats a good move on their part isn't it? I did have the zv5000 Notebook and returned it for this one because HP put such a slow horrible video card in it.

Well, when the times comes to upgrade your notebook, have fun overhauling the mboard - All of the future AMD DTR chips are built on 939-pin = easy replacement. Also, you might want to get your facts straight before making uninformed assumptions about a Graph. Card that just became available within the last few weeks. Keep in mind while reading the extensive review that they are testing the regular "200", the 200M is specially configured for AMD chips and will likely produce moderately better results.

    Read that site more carefully:

    http://205.177.13.145/reviews/2004q4/radeon-xpress200/index.x?pg=6

The Radeon 200M IGP blows chunks compared to a proper dedicated GPU... though that appears to be with no dedicated memory. The 128MB dedicated version should be substantially less bad, but it's still a low-end GPU. There could be a card slot for a graphics upgrade but HP hasn't mentioned it and no one has a zv6000 yet to check. Regardless, the 200M, being integrated into the chipset, is soldered in place. The desktop X300SE, which is comparable to the 200M w/128MB dedicated, is reportedly weaker than nVidia's GeForce 6200TC equivalent, and that's a pretty weak card to begin with.

CPU upgrades are easy enough, been there done that on my zv5000z.

HP should have offered two versions of the zv6000: one with the 128MB dedicated memory 200M, and one with a Radeon X600. But they didn't, so anyone who wants to do serious gaming is out of luck. For non-gamers it looks like a nice notebook, especially that Costco $999 deal, but not offering a high-end GPU to go with the best gaming CPU on the planet in a full-size notebook is just stupid.

too bad your chip is a piece of crap for anything outside of encoding - I couldn't care less how it plays games, thats what a ****ing desktop is for. And what the hell do you mean "there 'could' be a graphics card slot for upgrading" - thats one of the main aspects they're selling; "Available options include ATI Radeon XPRESS 200M with up to 128MB of dedicated memory AND 128MB of shared system memory" - Have a nice time with your weak ass 1.7Ghz M.

    Configuration Page

Remeber that I posted this early and the sale doesn't start untill sunday the 10th. Also know that you can only order this computer in store. Just check out the configuration online to see if you like it.

Since it's "build-your-own", I should think you can configure an Athlon 64, 12 cell battery and whatever else you like? The zv5000z got 3-4 hours with a 12 cell and the zv6000 ought to do a bit better than that. Good find at any rate.

Best Buy just added the Compaq R4012US:

    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=7125327&type=product&productCategoryId=pcmcat22300050001&id=1109937811956

It says "128MB shared memory video" but it has the 6-in-1 card reader, which I think is only available on the 128MB dedicated memory version? The machine isn't in stock anyhow, and I'd expect the usual rebate deal around the time it is.

It looks like a great deal to me. It has almost all the toys, everything except the 12 cell battery option. Unless you're a hard-core gamer and need a top-of-the-line GPU, or you want/need a higher-res screen and have the eyes to handle it (and those aren't offered in BrightView), that zv6000 is VERY hard to beat. I'm rather fond of my zv5000z's 1680x1050 res screen, so I'm sticking with what I have.

Does Office Depot have an in-store configurator? The print ad shows a $150 mail-in rebate that does not show up when configuring on techdepot.com.

sry to post right after one, but here is what hp says about the graphics cards.

    32MB ATI RADEON(R) XPRESS 200M
ATI RADEON(R) XPRESS 200M with 32MB shared video memory is the ideal blend of performance that brings you a visual, cinematic experience. Just an additional note about the ATI 200M from HP's website:

"You get sharp images and true color from the ATI RadeonĀ® XPRESS 200M graphics with up to 128MB of dedicated video memory. For more intense graphics, you can tap into an ADDITIONAL 128MB of shared system memory that you can configure. For systems that run less graphics-intensive applications, you can also select an ATI Radeon XPRESS 200M graphics card with 32MB of shared video memory and then customize the amount of shared video memory used by your system up to 128MB. You'll get the graphics power when you need it and save battery power when you don't."

-Sounds like a configure-able 256 Card to me

Just bought mine from Office Depot (in-store).

    Athlon64 3500
    512mb RAM (1)
40gb HDD (Want to upgrade to a 7200rpm)
    XP Pro
    DVD/CD-RW Combo
    128mb ATI video
15.4" BrightView 1280x800 (I can only see 1024x768 comfortably lol)
    12 Cell Battery
    54g integ. w/ Bluetooth
    Works/Money

    Total after $40 shipping and $78 tax (ouch) = $1192.66 - $50 HP rebate & $150 in-store OD rebate = $992.66

They also gave me a rewards card... apparently if you spend more than $500 in a quarter at OD you get a $50 reward... I assume this is in the form of a gift card?

    Not too shabby imo.

did they just sign you up for an advantage card?

becuase that card doesn't apply to computer sales. So basically the person who gave you the card didn't explain that. It only applies for some techonology and all office supplies.
    (I work at office depot.)

How often OD has this kind of sale (50% off on upgrade)?

yeah - I was stoked to order mine ZV, but I ordered right from HP's site on 4/1 and they estimated the build time to be May 13th, so Im waiting in excruciating anxiousness as the Cust. Serv. Reps couldn't tell me anything more than "May 13th", so i wonder if OD is more accurate, or if they're just making it a month 1/2 from when you order on the site to give themselves more than ample delivery times. I'm checking my Email every day to get a tracking number in the hopes that they will surprise me - day 14 right now - ill be sure to post whenever I do get the order ship confirmation [8)]
