Can you run 3dmark05? Not expecting much, but I'd like to see how it does.
http://www.futuremark.com/download/?3dmark05.shtml -
3Dmark05 Score = 672
-
You have the 128Mb dedicated 200M version, right? I think a 128mb x300 gets almost 1000 in 3dmark05, so your score would put the xpress 200m under that and probably comparable to a non-turbo 9600. Not too bad for an "integrated" gpu. Would be nicer if they had a better card option, but still not bad.
-
I would be nice to see 3DMark01 and 03 scores. I can't realy relate to 3DMark05 scores... 672 Don't tell me much.
-
3Dmark03 = 1451
Yes it is the 128MB version -
672? 1451? so what do these numbers mean? will i be able to play battlefield 2, CS etc somewhat decently? also are you sure its 939 socket? b/c i thought they only made that for 3400+ and up.. what are the advantages for the 939? thanks!
-
thoes are some bad 3dmark scores. I wonder if any one is playing games on these things and if so hows it look?
my 9300 gets around 3000 with no O/C with O/C I have seen scores close to 5000
but that score is close to ati 9600 so in all actuallity you should be able to play alot of games on it just not at the highest resolutions and options.
-
Yes, they're low compared with the 6800go, but almost everything is.
diesel213, about how much battery life are you getting? -
hi diesel213,
Does your ZV6000 come with Harmon-Kardon speakers?
And do you see any word "Harmon-Kardon" on your ZV6000?
Waiting for my ZV6000 from Costco:

wanna write a review for us since you have one? doesn't seem like anyone has recieved theirs yet.

I orderded myself a ZV6000 from Office Depot last saturday, and while I'm waiting for it to ship over here, I went and copped me two 1GB PC2700 DDR Kingston SODIMMs, but lookin at this page on the Circuit City website, they list 512MB of DDR2 SDRAM in their specs in the features section. So I was wondering if anybody know for certain if the ZV6000 can take DDR2 SODIMM chips?

Interestingly enough I have heard about HP offering DDR2 + Athlon 64 systems through external memory controllers. But why would they do this in a notebook? I would not make any conclutions based on Circuit City specs. I just find this very unreliable at the moment. But HP have pretty much surprised everyone with the Athlon 64 3800+ and 4000+ CPUs so I guess it is possible.

I noticed the CircuitCity ***ERRONEOUS MEMORY DESCRIPTION*** a few days ago...I'm pretty sure that they have it wrong [

I picked up the zv6005us from circuit City. I am well pleased. It only has a single sodimm slot and it is not ddr2. I was aggravated because I did expect two slots to upgrade to 2gb of ram. very confusing on HP's website, downright misleading as well. I have a Compaq rs3430us which is also an AMD 64 3200+ with the nividia 440 go. I had purchased a Kingmax 1gb ddr pc 2700 for it, and I was sure it would work in this HP, but it did not, it kept crashing. I ordered another piece from newegg of 1gb ram, and it failed as well. soooo, went to circuit city, bought a 512 corsair and it works fine. popped an email to HP and asked about approved memory list for this unit, and got an email back a few minutes ago, that said there is not an approved 1gb memory module as of yet, and they suggested a 512mb....
so I am definately a little ticked off, we'll see what tomorrow brings. I ordered a corsair from newegg of 1gb 2.5v, and I hoping it will work correctly. -
There are 2 memory slots giving you a total of 2048mb upgradability.
One is user-accessible, the other is under the keyboard & is more complicated to get to, but nonetheless still feasable.

The service manual is available from the HP support page for your notebook. You'll need it. There are several disassembly steps to get to the internal SODIMM slot.
I'm surprised when Kingmax memory works at all. Your best bet for 1GB SODIMMs is this deal:
http://shop3.outpost.com/product/4389075
Kingston 1GB, $140 before $30 rebate. It's known to work on the zv5000z/R3000z series, I'd be surprised if it doesn't work on the zv6000/R4000. Crucial and Kingston are the two most reliable brands. PNY has been getting favorable mentions too (for 512MB sticks), but I'm annoyed with them for scamming me out of a rebate (and CompUSA for not doing anything about it). -
hmm, thanks for the info. perhaps that is the problem. I need matching pairs?? so I could leave the 512 in, and remove the 256mb from under the keyboard.
thanks for the info! I appreciate it, will post results.
-
I see the little clear tabs on the top right and left side, are they suppose to be used to bring the keyboard out?
-
Better buy it quick, expires in 24hrs...(I hope I can make up my mind by then...even though it's been on my mind for days)
-
i had to remove both 256 sticks to get the kingmax to work, it does not like other memory much. once I removed both and put in a single 1gb it worked fine. I think i'll go with 2 corsair 1gb sticks, and still return the kingmax to newegg. thanks for the help and info.

I read somewhere on the forums that AMD's Dual channel for 939 processors was a little more unforgiving than Intel's external memory controller. What confuses me is everyone is stating that these new 939 mobile processors are restricted to single channel because of some BIOS issue... so the aggressive memory controller should be a moot point.. Does anyone know anymore info on this?

AMD's low-latency integrated memory controllers are more demanding than Intel's higher-latency memory controllers in general, plus many of the smaller SODIMM builders don't bother to test against AMD (dumb!) and some of them don't test their finished parts at all. Single vs. dual channel shouldn't make a difference. AMD says they made the memory controller in the new E-series cores (Venice, San Diego, etc) more forgiving.
The bottom line is that you have a high-performance machine and can't always get away with cheap memory. I had failures with Corsair and Infineon before buying Crucial/Micron (for my zv5000z, over a year ago). Made-in-Idaho Crucial/Micron memory is tops for AMD compatibility but their 1GB SODIMMs are just not cost-effective compared to that Kingston deal at outpost.com. -
I agree on the quality factor. I just tried the two 1gb Corsair PC3200 and they are working fine. No crashes and no issues. interesting under the hood. I might go ahead and try upgrading the CPU. It is a bit involved but not to bad. I tried some HL2 and Doom3 right after putting the new memory in, and switched the bios to sideport plus dedicated for 256mb. It ran very good with HL2, Doom3 was better, more detail than my 3430us compaq with the nvidia, but it still had to be turned down to low and mid settings for most of the vid options in Doom3 (thanks a lot ID). overall, excellent performance for the price, unbelievable in fact.

If you do decide to try a CPU upgrade, http://www.monarchcomputer.com has the best price and selection of the new Venice-core (Rev. E) Athlon 64's right now. They *should* work, I should hope that HP already has BIOS support for the new core or that it'd only break PowerNOW! support until an updated BIOS is released.
I'm tempted to get a R4000 from Best Buy, abusing the Best Buy card no-interest financing, and take it apart and upgrade it. Swap in a 100GB Seagate 5400.2 HD, 2GB RAM, Venice-core CPU... it already has a proper DVD burner. Then eBay it when I'm bored. Hmm, I wonder if the 1680x1050 res screen my zv5000z has would be compatible? Probably not. I really, really like this screen, even though it's not BrightView. The retail machines lack Bluetooth and only have 8 cell batteries too, though I do have an external Bluetooth radio and the battery thing isn't all that critical... hmm.
