Hi, I just read all the info that has been going on this site about the ZX5000. I'm thinking about buying this notebook. And I see mixed reviews on here. But the only negative I can see is the ATI RADEON comes with the 9200 as opposed to the 9600. I'm not that big of a gamer on my laptops so I don't think this will effect me. I do however watch DVD's on my laptop when I travel. The price im getting this machine for is $1269.00 (company discount and $50 mail in). Here are the specs...
Pentium 4 2.80Ghz
XP PRO
512 MB
40 GIG
DVD/CDRW Combo drive
54G Broadcom 802.11 b/g Wireless LAN
15.4 WXGA (1280x800)
64MB ati mobility radeon(tm) 9200
12 cell Ion batt
I'm replacing my home desktop with this notebook. I use my pc alot and play movies and record live recording sets on here (line in through my mixer). I was just wondering if you guys have any more input on this notebook? Thanks in advance[]

the notebook should work well for that, I have a review of it coming shortly, very similar setup.

Actually the price comes too $1239 after the rebate and the company discount. Seems like too good of an offer to refuse. [8D]

yep, thats exactly why i got it, the deals they were running at the time were even better than that, and there was no way i could pass it up.

SalD-
Go to the HP website, then go to the rebate center and look at offers for HP notebooks. The 100 dollar mail-in rebate is still there and available, they're just not advertising it.

Thanks for the heads up. But for some reason when I go to rebates and click on noteboks/100 rebate it still only offers me a $50 rebate when I customize it. Im not sure if thats because im getting a discount from my company or not? Im going to call them and see what thats all about. -
the 100.00 is a mail-in rebate you do after you get your notebook.

I know... I just thought when I selected that rebate it would say $100 instead of $50 when I went to customize. I guess the $50 is the default price and doesn't change on the website. But now the final price with the $100 mail in will be $1189. Not too shaby[

Do they just not announce $100 mail in rebate in order not to give $50 more dollars or what?
In both mail in rebate forms($50 and $100), besides some product series numbers they also say " ...Includes custumize-to-order notebooks". So, why they say "$50 rebate" in configuration web page rather than $100 rebate?
I've been thinking of ordering another ZT3000(I returned the previuos one) and I thought I would get $50 rebate. I guess now I can get the new laptop with 1.7 mhz M CPU for the same price of previous one with 1.6 mhz cpu while other features remain the same[]

"So, why they say "$50 rebate" in configuration web page rather than $100 rebate?"
Business strategy. They know most people aren't aware of the 100 dollar rebate anyway and are still going to buy the laptop. Imagine how many laptops HP must sell. Then think about what happens if the company is giving 50 dollars less back to each of them. It gets quite a bit more money.

So let me get this straight. You get a $50 standard mail in rebate, and then when you get the notebook you are also eligible for a $100 rebate also?
-
No... Either the $100 or the $50....
-
thanks for clearing that up [

Hi, I just got my HP ZX5000 and it's great. So far everything is running smooth and fine. The only problem I have is that the machine is too heavy to be sprinting around campus all the time. I don't want to change it but the weight is killing my back. I need something with a good performance that can also entertaint me(DVDs-music, no games).
Any sugestions? I was looking at the DV1040 series!!! Does it worth the exchange? ZX5000 VS DV1040! Can someone give me a good advise ASAP please?
Regards,

Well I own a zv5000z so I can understand the weight issue. I been carrying it back and forth for awhile now and it's anything but fun. As far as the dv1000 is concerned, you may want to take a look at several reviews users have posted in this forum and also there's a recent comparison in the notebook news forum between the dv1000 and the compaq v2000, both which around 5lb or so. I saw the dv1000 the other day in person and it look very nice and pretty light. You can make the complete return and try the 10% coupon hp has along with their 100 rebate to get some more saving then if u want to return it. It's pretty much up to you as the dv1000 does have the feature of dvd playing without boosting up computer. Good Luck.

Thank you very much thietlong for the infomation, I will take a look and see what can I find. The thing is that I will mostly be doing school work, which requires often using multiple decent sized engineering and cad type programs at the same time and I would like to know if I'm going to able to do all that with a DV1000's.
If anyone can give me some comments about that Ill appreciated.
