Does anyone think that HP will add Blueray burners as a choice on their laptops?
-
They will eventually, but unless someone leaks it out or they make a statement regarding it we won't know when.
-
They are a sponsor of HD DVD.
And as you may kno, there is a rivalry between the formats and HP sponsor HD DVD.

hmm... seems they also sponsor Blu-ray

All I know is BluRay is in the lead and will most likely win the little war going on. Also, for those of you who don't know, BluRay has successfully hit 200GB on one disc, but it's still in the testing phase.

If the flame war is relevant to the question (some points may very well be), just keep it polite/cordial. -

HP offers blu-ray on their laptops. they took it down?
-
I just hate to scratch HP of my list because they don't offer blueray burners. That leave me with Dell or Sony as a choice.
-
HP does have blueray burner for some of the desktops systems.
-
Not trying to steal the thread away, but does anyone know if you can buy a BluRay drive online and put them in an HP computer -- like the dv6700t? I'm sure the thread op is also curious.

What's the point of a blu ray burner? Seriously, optical media storage is a thing of the past. External hard drives are cheaper, more durable, more convenient and more accessible.
I doubt blu ray or Hd dvd burners ever catch on in the consumer electronics. -

To be fair Greg, Envision does raise a legitimate point. I would be very cautious about purchasing an HD-DVD drive at this point and would certainly advise no one to do so if they asked me. With the recent switch by Warner Bros to Blu-Ray exclusivity, they are in a very strong position to win the format war. I suppose, somehow, HD-DVD might be able to recover but at this point it seems unlikely.
I would have cashed in on that $500 coupon if HP had offered a Blu-Ray drive on the 2700t...it would have sealed the deal for me. As it stands, I don't think I could, in good conscious, recommend an HD-DVD optical drive, given recent events in the format war. Also, from a technical perspective, if I'm not mistaken a BD disc can hold more data so if you were to get a burner, you might want to go with that, irrespective of which movies could be watched in that format.
I'm looking forward to the day HP starts offering Blu-Ray as a standard option in their notebooks as I've always thought HP did the media notebooks the best. -
I'm not saying that I don't want a BluRay burner, because I will probably purchase one for my desktop soon. I would like to see them in the HP laptop line as well, but you know how HP is, always behind on the great ideas. I mean they still don't realize that if they put better graphics cards in more people would buy their laptops. -
They make them for desktops. Way too expensive though. Just give the technology time to come down in price if you ask me. But I love the idea of burning 60 gigs on a disk and taking it with you.
newegg.com has 3, here is Sony's..

I had a Sony FZ290 with a bluray burner during Christmas. It had a bad keyboard so it went back. I purchased 4 25GB disks. It was great to drop 20+GB folders on it. I like having my pictures and MP3's backed up on a device that I don't have plugged in.
I do back up to various HD's on computer home network. My brother lost a good amout of data when a storm tooks his system and usb external drive out.
With disks a can have several copies and leave them in different locations just in case. I have been scanning pictures, slides and so forth for last 10 years of old family pictures. Plus all the digital pictures I have taken. DVD's are a pain to get all my stuff on. With Blueray getting 25,50, 100GB it will be nice in the future to have a backup that is not electronic.
As prices for disks come down and they will it will be even better. -
Until the day that they start making affordable Bluetooth-enabled external hard drives, I'll be using disks as well.
-
Blu-Ray is definitely the way to go but as for writers, I'll wait until they speed up the write speed technology. Especially with the fact that developers are currently testing that 200gig Blu-Ray disk. Gee let me wait 10 hours to back up 1 hard drive... -
Sure beats using 20 DVD's and when the drives get faster I will just buy a new one.
