I know Win 7 RC1 is not yet ready for prime time (thought it is close). When does HP usually start to upgrade their drivers for recent machines? Anyone know from experience?

If you're asking for when HP will release "official" Win 7 drivers, they're going to do it when Win 7 is released.

Windows 7 RC will never be ready for primetime, that's why it's a release candidate.

You quoted the word "official". ARe there any beta or unofficial Win7 drivers available anywhere from HP. And yes I know its not yet ready which is why I stated that in my original post. But at some point they will be likely releasing. I was wondering if anyone had personal experience and knew when this happened in the past.

First, HP, themselves, do not make most of the drivers, they just host the drivers made by the parts manufacturers.

Second, HP is not going to host beta or unofficial drivers. Once HP hosts a driver, it means that they have to officially support it - through tech support and whatever other means. This means that the drivers will show up first on the manufacturer's homepage, and after a week or so, HP themselves will host the driver.

Windows 7 RC is more ready for primetime than the version of Vista that is currently available in a nice shiny box in the retail shop. Are you reading about windows 7 not working with even the most recent HP notebooks, as I am not.

Also, windows 7 support is primarily based on $, and will be available as soon as HP begins to offer it as an option on the particular laptop model in question. Then shortly after the $ angle is taken care of, a broad sweep of windows 7 support will be available for remaining, recent & capable, laptops. As far as individual driver updates, see the post above.

Sorry, but I couldn't care less about reading about it. I am experiencing it with an HP DV5-1235DX. Everything was great with the beta, but for some reason the RC1 just won't play nicely on it. So I was inquiring thinking that some who have been using HP computers for a long time might know the companies pattern. Clearly no one really knows and HP isn't revealing when they will be releasing them. So the answer I am getting to my original inquiry is "we don't know" right?

No, the answer is: HP will release official drivers for Win7 when it is released.

I am having no issues driver wise on windows 7 RC with my dv5z. Most of the device drivers are included inside of windows, some come from windows update and the devices windows doesn't recognize the HP vista driver works just fine.

You will have to wait till windows 7 hits mainstream before you see any drivers listed for supported HP models on HP's FTP.

What does that mean? For my edification, please explain what particular issue W7 is giving you.

And as far as your question, Lithus and I were making a fine point argument, but completely agree that the drivers will come after the official release.

I would think you would want to get W7 functioning now, and be ahead of the game...

I do not believe that we were having any argument. My statement that Win7 RC will never be ready for primetime is a completely semantic one. Once Win7 is released, the "RC" designation will be dropped from its name. I have no opinion on the state of Win7 currently, though I do have high expectations.
