I have read some complaints in this and other forums (and some reviews) that the graphics drivers for IGP and discrete chipsets (by ATI and nvidia) can not be updated using ATI/Nvidia original drivers in some notebooks. Now I know that this is not specific to HP or anything but since I want to buy the new 6325 series with integrated ATI graphics and not stick to Windows only I want to know that regular ATI drivers can be used on this Laptop with Linux as well. Funny thing I used to own a Dell Insprion 8200 back in the day and under Windows you couldn't update using nvidia drivers but under Linux you could use the original nvidia drivers. What gives? Why does this happen in man notebooks ? Is nx6325 a possible pain in the a$$ ? How about current 6125 series, can the ATI original drivers for windows be used with them (also linux drivers).

+1 on the question posed above. I have an ATI 200m and would like to know if there's an update from ATI that's newer than what HP is saying is out there. Ideas?

I will explain what I did to get the newer drivers for my laptop.
HP/Compaq sucks because they only let you upgrade your graphics drivers from their site, not ATI's. I was pretty angry because when I tried to download them from ATI they told me to go and get them from HP's site. And of course they hadn't updated the drivers.
But I found a way to get around this problem. One of the NBR members hotlinked the driver download page. I was able to get the driver from this and I installed with no problems. It has been working flawlessly ever since I downloaded it.
So if anyone can help us out that would be great. All you need to do is find the drivers we are looking for and hot link them. Another option that I just thought of but never tried is getting them off torrents. Kind of risky but might work. I haven't tried updating my drivers but I am sure it won't let me.
So I hope this helps/explains HP and their graphics drivers. =P

I mean what is the big deal about us using generic drivers. I know that in a year people won't find newer drivers from HP but ATI will keep releasing new ones. My main concern is Linux, if the bios of the card is so that generic ATI drivers cannot be loaded I won't have opengl acceleration which means horrible video playback and no screensavers. Anyway, if anyone has managed to load ATI drivers with the nx6125 please tell others how to do so, I have a feeling 6325 is quite similar to 6125.

As far as Nvidia is concerened they will only release drivers for their card GPU's leaving the mobile drivers to the OEM.
All drivers will work with GPU's wether desktop or mobile, the problem is that the .INF file has to be modified to accomodate the GPU model.
You can go to this site that specialises in mobile drivers.
