I have had several HPs in the past and have been overall satisfied with all of them. One thing I did not like was the fact HP never supplies restore CDs.
I just purchased a HP dv6t q.e. Once I receive the laptop one of the first things I would like to do is create a restore disc (probably after I get some programs on there).
My question is:
What is the best program to create a simple DVD for Windows 7 restore disc.
Sorry for asking such a basic type question ... I just have not done this in the past and would like to get in the habit of doing so, when purchasing new computers.

Depending upon the version of Windows 7 you have, you can create your own without using third-party software. Windows 7 Professional, Ultimate and Enterprise have the "Maitenance and Restore feature which essentially does the same thing that many consumer third-party apps do. It creates an image of the partitions you select, or the whole system as well as user files and everything else doing so where you select to store it. It also allows you to create a Windows startup disk that allows you to access the program without booting into the OS in the event, you are unable to do so.
But truth be told, HP does include a Recovery Manager app that will prompt you to create these restore disks (which is the whole OEM OS install rather than a disk that accesses a recovery image) using 4 DVD's or 2 DVD-DL's or one USB flash drive of at least 16gig in size.
IMO, you really do not need a third-party app for backing up your system or creating a system image, unless you already have something in mind that you are more comfortable with and works for you. Between Windows and HP, you already have all the tools, in this area, that you need. Now if you went with the Home Premium edition, then that is a different matter entirely.
Also noteworthy here is that HP did ship a restore disk of some sort with my dv6tqe-6000. Other than saying it is a restoration DVD, I suspect that it is merely a disk that contains tools to allow the user to access the HP Recovery Manager, Windows System Repair and HP's backup image in the event the OS is not bootable. -
Sounds good, thanks! Saves me the time looking for / buying software.
I am glad I went with Windows Professional as I was debating it.
Between the HP and Windows 7 software it sounds like I'll be fine. -
