I own a HP nx8220 laptop. Recently i started having problems. The battery would not charge, only way was to use the laptop while its plugged in to the wall. I thought the battery was bad, bought a brand new one, still the same problem.

-Battery in and power cord plugged in>>>>Laptop Works, but battery not charging
-Battery in and power cord unplugged>>>>Laptop Does Not work
-Battery out and power cord plugged in>>>Laptop Works

I tried wiggling the plug where the power connects to the computer, i still cant get the battery to charge or work at all! I dont believe it could be a faulty power plug at the back of the computer because i have no problems with the power cord not working., only the battery charging and working.

What do i EXACTLY need to look at? I have gotten a few suggestions, but nothing specific.

Firstly, see if windows even detects the battery is inserted

    then try updating your BIOS

I am a highschooler on the Tech Support team of my school (with real IT people) and we have HP nx6110,nc6310,nc6320, and nx6710 laptops in classrooms. Since the laptops have been plugged in for so long, the batteries either are not recognized or don't charge at all. Here's the fix:
    1. Turn off the laptop, and remove the battery or batteries from the laptop (ours have internal and external clip-on batteries). Also disconnect the power adapter from the laptop.
    2. Open up the laptop and hold down the power button for approximately 10 seconds.
    3. Now, put the battery back in.
    4. Plug the laptop back into the AC power. On our notebooks, the "lightning bolt" light will immediately illuminate green/orange together for a few seconds and then turn off.
    5. Turn on your laptop and see if the batteries work again.

What holding down the power button does? HP's business laptops have like a "battery memory" that is part of the CMOS and for some reason if the battery isn't used a lot it like stops recognizing the batteries. Try it and see if it works.

    69bronco,
On the HP site it says that testing program is supported on all HP Notebook PCs manufactured in 2006 and most systems in 2005. My notebook is older than that

You never answered my question. Is the battery being detected by windows when you put it in?

Okay check the battery terminal/pins in your notebook is intact.

Also try wiggling the battery if you can while its plugged in.

I checked the pins, they are intact. Wiggled the battery didnt help, laptop still doesent recognize the battery. So if the battery terminal is bad, could anyone give me a link to where i can buy the EXACT replacement? Also, could there possibly be any other causes to this battery issue?

I would check the power adapter. Sometimes, when power adapters start to fail, they'll power the notebook, but won't be able to charge the battery. See if you can find/borrow an extra HP power adapter and see if the battery charges with it.
