I was going to buy a new HP Windows 7 laptop, apparently
HP make available (both) Pavilion an Envy in 15 inches

    ENVY 15 | HP® Official Store

    Pavilion 15 | HP® Official Store

now, I don't see exactly the difference between both models,
except, one is $300 cheaper, the -$300 can be customized
with a 840M (last week it could, yesterday it couldn't, today
it's back again) but no 1920x1080 option. Envy can come in
    1920x1080 resolution, only 740M (no 840M) and $300 more

can you help me to find a decent game lappy, Windows 7,
1920x1080 ... and less than $900, less than $800 better

I like HP, but any other brand is fine

I assume 840M is better than 740M, but some benchmarks websites disagree on that

Umm, no. 840m is easily 20-25% faster than the 740m, but it really isn't much of a gaming card. Will do fine for older games at 1080p and newer games at 720p low to medium details. If you want to game then at least get an 850m minimum, 860m preferred, and if you can swing it a 970m. But as moviemarketing noted, fill out the what notebook should I buy form since there are so many options with mid grade cards you might find something a lot better for same or less cost.

Going for a new laptop with an 850m or 860m will probably get the price over $900. If you can stomach second hand laptops, you probably could get one off ebay or some other site with a 660m, 670m, or 765m for that price.
