    Hey guys,
I was just wondering if anyone had any advice on dealing with HP regarding warranty claims. On the final month of my warranty, the video card started failing (the screen would go blank, random lines, etc.), the laptop kept overheating, and the battery even overheated. I sent it to HP, they denied warranty saying theres a spill, and they won't fix my video card/motherboard till I pay for a new keyboard ($300!!) That seems absurd to me. I even took it to an engineering professor (PhD) and we took out the keyboard. The spill was contained to the keyboard (more like a small stain) , and did not even touch any of the components. HP refuses to even discuss anything, and since my BBB complaint, refuse to even talk to me. Is there anything short of small claims court I can do?

Which HP laptop? Let me guess, you have a NVIDIA graphics chip?

Keyboards are cheap to replace. You can find new ones on eBay. I replaced the keyboard on a dv9000 that had suffered a very bad coffee spill and the rest of the notebook was fine. HP is making lame excuses but if it'll make them happy you could replace the keyboard and send it in again.

Yep, its a dv9000, with the NVIDIA graphics. Its not one of the listed laptops though , its a dv9816ca. I think the case manager at some point said they have to replace the keyboard themselves; anyways the keyboard isn't a problem. I'd change it, but my warranty is now expired so I doubt I could just send it in with a new keyboard. Its just absurd that they claim a stain on a few keys is responsible for the failing video card.

My old computer is a DV9035NR and HP fixed the hingecrack thing. My GeForce GO 7600 idles at 156 degrees F. Other than the hinge crack, the pc has performed well. The lcd really is poor quality though compared to practically anything else. HP denied anything to do with the hinge breaking till a few months ago, well past the warranty had expired. The only reason they eventually agreed to replace the hinges and lcd bezel was because of the class action lawsuit.
