I have had my new dm1z for about 3 days now. Just got it to work where there is a little bit less background acoustics and I cant help but notice a constant, high-pitched noise emanating from the guts of this laptop.

I think it may be a fan on the processor as it is separate from the regular fans that are used by HP coolsense (I tested this). It seems to be always running. Might decrease in volume for 2-3 seconds but then right back up to its usual annoying level. Is anybody else experiencing this and is there a way to fix this?

Unfortunately, I dont think I can keep the product if there is no way to safely resolve this noise. Its a shame because I am otherwise liking it very much.

    Thanks for any help!

The dm1z has only one fan and I havent seen anyone else report any high pitched noise issues. Might just be your particular machine...so might want to see if you can get it exchanged from where you bought the system. The only noise other than the fan comes from the HDD which is a bit louder than usual on the dm1z series.

Try updating you Bios if you haven't already. If it doesn't go away call tech support and hang up until you get someone in the Phillipines or the US. I'd also boot to bios (hit the power button and then escape in quick succession to get into the start up menu. Followed by F10 to launch into bios). HDD failure code from the bios are three characters long. Failure codes from the F2 diagnostic menu are 24 characters long and tell you the same thing.

Hope this helps. The DM1z is probably the best Pavilion notebook HP has. It's interesting that you're having issues.

Also if you just got it, send it back and get the new dm1z, same price region as old one and they made some nice changes!
