intel model has no switchable graphics

3dmark vantage gave me NA for my score XD but my cpu score was 4838 and graphics was 797

vantage wont run , says minimum res not supported. So i dunno if thats a limitation in the trial verison

as for the comparison to the intel machine. I wonder what hardrive you have ? I have the free upgrade one which i think is 250 gig 5000rpm drive ? So if you have the 7200rpm drive plus a faster cpu that is going ot make up the diffrence for us.

My kit cost $660 though and cleans up shop for a laptop of its price range. The major upgrade I'm going to make is an ssd drive 128 gig hopefully blackfriday i can get one for $200ish. I wouldn't mind finding a 4 gig dimm either.

 

I'm assuming the Office Depot DM3 can run Photoshop, Premiere and Second Life? I almost bought it today and held off until the morning.

Yes it will run it. If you use alot of photoshop and premiere you might want to get the 4330. Both of those programs will make use of open cl and the 4330 supports that.

Basicly your gpu will be used to help render anything your donig. Can make a huge diffrence.

 

oh certianly . I'm running vantage now but loading each test takes forever.

I'm in the space test and getting like 1fps. So i dunno whats going on.



I also played lotro today and it was nice and smooth. Going ot play more tonight and get back to you guys on performance.

i'm surprised the test favors nvidia because it uses physx so much and nvidia bought them sortly after the benchmark came out .

Loaded up solidworks (3d cad design) and have been running for the last few hours. Also streaming some music through the wireless, and running basic MS office stuff. Basically, just doing my normal work stuff

Side note on fan noise, the DM3 is sitting right next to my Dell inspiron laptop, and the fan on the HP seems much quieter, I can only hear it if I listen for it..

With the intel verison you'd have to do at least the $100 upgrade bringing you to $750 off the bat


I mean it all depends on what you want to do but the 4330 is much more powerfull than the 3200.

I just bought the dm3 about a week ago and it's the dm3 1030us version

I'm struggling to get 3 hours of battery life with 50% brightness, bluetooth off, just streaming youtube and web surfing can anybody tell me if this is normal? and what can i do to increase bat life?

Also same with everyone else my hp came with TONS of bloatware can anyone recommend which programs i really need and which ones should i delete to help my bat, cpu, and gpu

I have the dmz , I deleted everything but the hp wireless asistant.

 

1) Flash web site, such as streaming video is very tasking on battery
2) All the bloatware cause more process and tasking on system draining more battery

How does your DM3 play HD movie trailer and youtube HD?

 

Run lotro on battery mode and report the battery life please. 3 hours on my HP Mini 311 with a 56 watt hour battery. I'd be extremely surprised if the DM3 can handle 2 hours with the HD3200 or even 1.5 hours with 4330. Also, feel free to run LOTRO with the HD3200 and let me know how it runs. I'd be interested to know. Mainly interested in the 21st hall performance where hundreds of people gather.

BTW - I stopped in Irvington, NJ to fill up my rental... BIG MISTAKE... I have never felt so unsafe in my life. I thought I was going to get knifed as I drove around looking for the next on-ramp, which seemingly did not exist. My God, that city is a war zone... Then I went to look up the city information a few days later and was even more alarmed. It just confirmed my initial thoughts on the place. Gotham City... That place needs batman.

 

on you tube other than taking longer to load it plays youtube hd perfect no lag but on hulu 480 hd there's a lag not much but there is one

what is everyone's average bat life on the dm3 1030us while streaming flash and surfing the web?

I don't have DM3 but had owned tons of HP laptop...how about go to control panel post a screen shot here and we will tell u which one you can keep or not./

By the way...nobody has told me about mkv playback .. do u have MKV high def files? play it if u do please and let me know if its playable or choppy?

 

The only mkv files i know of are pirated anime video of which I don't watch.

 

What are you guys doing about warranties? I hate to spend $200 plus on an extended warranty on a $500 machine.

also something weird happened just now i'm in the library streaming youtube with my headphones on and then when i refresh a webpage sound goes to my speakers for a second and then when i mute the sound with youtube still running and press refresh sound still comes out! anyone else have this problem?

also for everyone to know i called hp support bc i was wondering why sound was coming more from the left side of the laptop it's because the left speaker is at the far left and the right is more towards the center

a while back i posted that i copied an mkv player and 1080p mkv onto a best buy dm3z (base model) and it was skippy, yet strangely it was fine on a friend's mini 311. the dark knight trailer (quicktime) was smooth on the dm3z but skippy on the mini 311. i'm thinking the hd3200 might not get hardware acceleration or it wasn't set up or something. i'm willing to bet the l625+hd4330 would be okay. i vaguely recall apple is supposed to be adding hardware acceleration to quicktime for nvidia chips, so if that's all you do then mini 311 isn't a bad way to go.

so do we have any "official" battery life numbers for the sp9300+g105m and l625+hd4330?

 

if someone pms me a link to a mkv file i will test it with the hd 3200 and the hd 4330

 

i just ran the 1080 avatar trailer on the apple trailers site, it ran perfectly fine with su7300/g105

After looking around I guess the betbuy version is 549 and 3GB ram and no bluetooth but retrnable.

Office depot version is 549 - 50 rebate and 4 GB ram and HAS bluetooth but NOT returnable hm......................

quicktime is an apple product. they use intel. So of course its going to run better on an intel processor.

There are third party apps http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/how_to_play_mov_files.cfm

that will play these files much better than quicktime would.

I am able to use quicktime alternative and playback the avatar trailer listed at www.quicktime.com at 1080p in fullscreen with the 4330 enabled or the 3200 enabled.

 

For those that care, I have the su7300 with the g105M and got over 4 hours tonight with the brightness set about two ticks below full. That's with wifi on and just browsing the internet and Instant Messaging.

I tested the battery life of my new AMD Neo based HP DM3z for the first time last night and got ~5.05 hours

• ~70% brightness,
• Wireless on, Bluetooth off
• Light browsing using FireFox including a few flash-based web sites.

HP advertises up to 6 hours (Somehow )

 

So more battery life with AMD than with Intel ? I guess Jonathan360 used maybe somewhat different parameters, it should be at least equal ...

 

Has anyone tested the battery life for the SP9300/G 105M? I looked back over previous posts and couldn't find any stats on this config.

 

And in that vein could someone post 3dmark scores for the SP9300/G 105M. I bet someone has already and I just missed it. I keep asking because I am trying to decide between builds so I am gathering comparable stats as best I can.

 

Also was wondering if anyone out that picked up Dragon age and tried it on this laptop.

 

Could we also throw in the WEI for the SP9300/G 105M and anything else you can think of..

i would imagine it would run dragon age, ive ran call of juarez 2, arkham asylum, bioshock, and crysis fine on this laptop and that game doesn't have much different requirements than those.

Its alot of fun so far. I actually got it last friday through a friend of mine who works for game stop.

Its really cpu bound actually from all tests on the web. You can go from a dual core intel cpu to a tri core amd processor and the amd processor is up to 70% faster. It only uses up to three cores though. Will be interesting to see.

But this is exactly why I returned the mini 311. A single core atom is going to be the limitation now that all games are going multicore.

 

Any battery results from the SP9300/105m combo?

 

The geforce 105m will use alot more power than the hd 3200 so any cpu power savings will be washed out.

 

i think the battery life of the amd + 3200 and the intel + g105 are about the same, if maybe the intel a tiny bit more.

So far (about 2 hours in), Dragon Age plays fine on medium graphics with my 7300/g105m system. The only minor issue was getting my legitimate copy installed and working without an external DVD drive. They really need to start re-thinking DRM in light of systems like this.

With regards to battery life, running Dragon Age on medium with most of the bloatware still installed and the wifi turned on (but not being actively used), I went through 20% charge in 38 minutes. That works out to about 3 hours battery life. I figure that's about as hard as I can push it. I'm pretty happy knowing I can switch to power saver mode (50% cpu, aero disabled, reduced brightness) for reading/office work/browsing and have the thing last much, much longer.

Heat was an issue though. It was uncomfortably warm in my lap after an hour of playing. It's not unbearable, but it's a little concerning. I suspect my last laptop died from the Nvidia GPU heat issue and I'm hoping this one lasts longer.

I'm still loving the keyboard and hating the trackpad. At this point, the overly stiff buttons are bothering me more than the trackpad surface. I must have been getting into the game though, since the controls didn't bother me in the least while playing.

 

pasta4u you played tf2 on your setup right? did it run fine?

 

ya i was interested to how tf2 ran on the 4330 build, my intel runs it fine when nothings going on but slows down to 20fps in big action even on the lower settings.
