The chipset limits 800mhz to 666mhz. DDR2 (double data rate) works by 400mhz x2, or in this case 333mhz x2. I see a $40 trial-and-error in my future.

Can anybody with a dm3z and 4GB RAM please take a gpu-z screenshot?

Strange though, memtest86+ shows the memory running at 800mhz in dos.

Did anyone load batterybar? i see that my brand new battery has 6.2% wear.

It is showing the capacity as 53,735

Can someone post what theirs looks like? I will try to get it replaced if already has issues.

I loaded battery bar within the first couple days of owning my dm3 and it showed 2.8% wear. About a week later, it plummeted to 9.8% but hasn't dropped anymore after 2 more weeks (3 weeks total). I really hope this thing doesn't degrade at a rate of ~10% a month...

I've had the dm3t for 2 weeks and battery bar has 0.00% wear and i've used the battery roughly about 7-8 times, half of which I had the battery drained all the way down to til it shut off to 5% remaining ...

    For the SP9300
Just for those who want an estimate I am able to get at least 5 hours of battery life using firefox(mostly web and like 3-4 youtube videos) and AIM (this is on HP Recommended mode) ... doing the same thing on power saver I get 5.5 battery life ... and both modes with 50% brightness ... overall i'm quite satisfied with the battery life especially being the SP9300 w/105M

For those using battery bar it gives an estimate of the time remaining depending on the current use for example ... if you are watching youtube videos then the time remaining would adjust itself automatically to as if you are planning to spend the rest of your time watching youtube videos, and if you decide to stop watching videos and just surf the web it would adjust itself to as if you are planning to spend the rest of the time just surfing the web. This is just an insight to those wondering about the fluctuating times and percentages on battery bar.

For those looking for a case for the dm3 ... I decided to get the LA ROBE that is made for the macbook and macbook pro 13.3". It features memory foam for those who are looking for extra protection. The dm3t fits like a glove, very little wiggle room.

    Top to Bottom:
It fits quite snuggly into the case, top to bottom(from laptop hinge to front opening) there's a small amout of space and that's when trying hard to see if it will move.

    Left to Right:
From left to right of the laptop it doesn't move at all. I also tried the case with a nano receiver for my mouse and it still fits.

    Inside Lips:
For those wanting to know about the inside lips of the laptop ... it seems pretty good and I don't think the zippers will touch the sides of the laptop, just as a precaution and a regular habit I always put the laptop in with the hinge of the laptop facing the opening zipper ... I recommend others do that same. And as for the nano receiver for the mouse it actually sits in between the lips and it located near the endpoints of the zippers, and I'm still not worried about the laptop touching the zippers on the sides.

Overall I'm quite satisfied with the case.

Sounds good. Those are the figures I was lookin for. I still might go for the lu7300 though. Don't need graphics performance, battery life is more important here but 5+ hours for that beastly combo (for it's size) is impressive.

I wrote a first impressions thing before ... definitely check it out. I also had a tip about the touchpad.

My old laptop is actually similar to yours ... I had the original dv2000t, and it still works really good.

Heat: Manages heat VERY WELL … at least in my opinion, it’s barely warm under light use … and that area would be under the left palm rest.
General Use: Websurfing, YouTube videos(low quality), MS Word, and Chatting on AIM
    ACPI: 45
    Core #1: 41
    Core #2: 42
    GPU: 50
    HDD: 33

Just solely Websurfing w/ no vids
    ACPI: 38
    Core #1: 36
    Core #2: 36
    GPU: 43
    HDD: 33

Heavy load (Hulu HD Legend of the Seeker, Adobe Flash, Websurfing, AIM) ... Just Warm ... fan is chugging away
    CPU: Hovering around 80-85%
    Memory: 1.50GB

    ACPI: 54
    Core #1: 49
    Core #2: 48
    GPU: 55
    HDD: 34

When I initially boot the laptop in the morning ... I remember seeing the Core temps around 20 ... then rise up to 30-35, So you can considering this as Idle.

    Tips:
Also I'm using HP Recommended Mode ... if you use Power Saver like when you use the battery, it also lowers the temps.

So far I am quite happy with my DM3Z. I easily get 5-6 hours of word processing on the train. On a slightly different matter, I am wondering how many processes are running in your DM3Z at startup. I am hovering somewhere at 62 processes and can't help but think that that is quite a lot. Shouldn't it be much lower after most bloatware removal?

    Spike:

    Thanks so much!

A local shop tried fixing my DV2000 a month or two ago by heating it and it didn't work.... but I sent it to him again and told him to burn the heck out of it, he told me he was scared he would kill it. I told him it's just sitting there anyway so if you kill it, you would be doing me a favor. Since I got it back it's working great actually. Only thing is the switch that turns off the monitor when you close the lid apparently got busted... but it's all good. So I've got my baby back, hopefully she lasts. When she dies I'm going to pick me up a DM3 with the SP9300/105m and the SSD with 4GB DDR3. Have a little supercomputer..lol. Really has an amazing laptop with how powerful and cool it runs, not to mention the crazy good battery life. You reckon 6 hours with power saver when just web browsing (no videos) and doing some chatting... and an SSD?

Again, your input is highly appreciated.

I really like the asus VT linup OCs the SU7300 to get close to the SP9300 performance....

Since HP doesnt have the bios OC enabled. Has anyone tried to use rmclock to OC and underclock the CPU.

so change the VID and MHZ when idle to be really low and then when needed it would increase VID and MHZ to an OCed level....

I know RMclock supports profiles so when you launch a program it could change profiles from UC to OC..

just a thought... i may try it later this week.

I'm quite satisfied with the dm3 laptop it's just the right size and weight. I loved the keyboard on the dv2000t ... and I was a little reluctant buying the dm3 because of it ... but I'm happy to say it's just as good as the dv2000t and it took like two days to get use to for me(keep in mind I've never use a macbook style keyboard ... I hate when they call it chiclet style, it looks more like scrabble tiles to me hahaha)

Oh and in power saver mode aeroglass is still on for the SP9300 ... so if you can find a way to turn it off you'll probably get more battery life but I just leave it on, and also if you can bare to dim the brightness even more then you can squeeze out even more battery. So far the only way I know how to turn it off is by disabling the transparency ... wish there was a way to do it automatically when I switch to power saver mode.

Just saw that Mikelynch seems to have the SP9300 w/ the SSD so try giving him a shot with battery life, as I am also curious about it.

Haven't had a chance to run any real battery tests yet, but I got about 5hrs (Power Saver) last night while installing software (CS3, Office 2010 beta, 4 different browsers, Live Mesh, etc) and getting it set up. Maybe up to 6hrs under normal usage? If that is the case, I will be happy. My old Fujitsu Lifebook P7010 used to give me 6hrs under ideal conditions, but with just a 1.1GHz ULV and crappy Intel video. This HP actually beats my desktop in everything except graphics, so I expect it will be much more useful.

You got 5 hours of battery life while installing all of that?

Man, that's even harder on the laptop than playing a video. 6 hours easy in that case with the SSD. And I do mean easy. Crap. Maybe 7.

I dont think 7hrs is do able unless screen brightness is at like 10%

btw I am impressed with the 5.9 Windows score on the SP9300. I kind of wish i would have bought mine with it ;(

well yeah it switched the dual channel but it didnt help the mhz issue....

dual channel is only minimal performance gain and only when large files are loaded into RAM.... mhz and timing are more important.

After long calls with HP tech support and customer service I decided to send the laptop back :( :( . Hopefully the next one won't have the same issue (even though I'm very much afraid it will). HP seems like they are not aware of the vibration issue (or at least the guys sitting in the call center in India don't).
I want to believe that HP didn't release a product with such an obvious problem.

Aren't you guys experiencing the same thing? Can someone associate the vibrations to a specific configuration (certain kind of HDD maybe? I ordered the 5400rpm model only to avoid the vibration risk reported mostly about the Best Buy model. Didn't help)

If anyone is interested I will keep you posted on the developments.

Why does the HDMI connection, from DM3z (L625 + HD 3200) look unimpressive? The tv (Sony Bravia 32") plays HD tv flawlessly, but from the DM3z it doesnt look nowhere as nice as it does on the actual notebooks screen.

Why does the HDMI from the DM3z (L625 + HD 3200) look so unimpressive? When the tv (Bravie 32" HD) plays regular tv in HD and playing PS3, its flawless, but from the DM3z its looks no where as good as the actual screen on the notebook.

Well I got horrible news when I asked my sister where my package was when I got home. She signed for the laptop as she was leaving so the fed-ex man put the package on the side porch. She didn't know it was the laptop. So now I am out of a $750 laptop....... Tried HP and fed-ex and they can't help. I am trying the credit card company. Anyone know what else I could try? There goes my christmas gift.

Did you buy it through American Express? They have a purchase protection policy that covers theft. I'm going through the claims process with them now because some one dropped my dm3t on the ground while I had it plugged in. It ripped the AC and ethernet ports out and bent that side panel.

What about home owners insurance. Mine covers theft.

or renters if you have it

Yeah, the cop mentioned American Express but it was on a capital one card. I sent in a claim. Well see if they do anything. My sister is going to pay for it, but I would rather that not have to happen. I also don't know what to do because I bought it during the 20% bing cashback. I doubt that will happen again very soon, but I hope I am wrong on that.

I also don't know if it is worth it to have another claim on the house insurance. I they have wanted to cancel us before because we had a few claims over the years. So I don't know. I am just hoping capital one will be kind enough to help me out.

    Please Help!

My Dm3-1030us occasionally 'freezes' after being idle for a while!

I think this happens when it should have gone into sleep mode but it doesn't. I move the mouse and the screen lights up again, but the mouse then freezes and the computer becomes non-responsive.

Has anyone else had this problem? Could this be because I updated my Catalyst drivers?

Oh James, the solution is simple. You have to kill your sister.

    (kidding! ... yes..)

It is an issue with the drivers from ati and the hd3200 and 4200 I believe.

I hear catalyst drivers 9.08 were fine, but everything after broke it again.

Specifically, it is one of the sleep states that causes an issue. It should be fine even then unless you try and play something like say a youtube video that utilizes the gpu, then the freezes begin.

If you want to keep the latest drivers in use, but bypass the issue, set your power options to hibernate instead of sleep when the lid is closed. Takes a few more seconds to get back up and running, but solves the issue as a work around.

Eventually - hopefully - a newer driver from ati will fix the issue and not leave it broken. But until then, either retard your driver release (and LOSE support for gpu accelerated flash with the 10.1 flash release), or set your dm3 to hibernate.

Also, make sure the multi touch options for the mouse are turned off (unless there is an update for that now?) as that sometimes caused the mouse to become non responsive.

registered just so i could post on this thread.
should be receiving my dm3t from FedEx today, but i won't be able to see/mess with it until i go home for the holidays at the end of the month.
    here are my specs:

    * • System Recovery DVD with Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
    * • Microsoft(R) Works 9.0
    * • HP Home & Home Office Store in-box envelope

after reading through all 140+ pages, i believe there are a bunch of people out there with these same specs but no one has really posted their complete experiences with them ... any feedback or user experiences would be awesome! i really only considered hp because of the EPP and since my family has stock in HP hah, and the dm3t seemed like the best bang for the buck at the moment. the design was attractive (minus the touchpad and small design quirks HP chose to go with, i'm extremely picky with design sorry) and the specs available seemed like they were keeping up with the joneses. i did a lot of research and reading beforehand, at first considering a Mini311 and an Envy13, but the the dm3t seemed to take the best of both worlds and mash them up into a great form factor. i'm coming from 2 sony vaio sz laptops with high end specs, so i'm hoping the dm3t will be a good hold over until i can purchase another powerful lappy later down the road.

anyway, i'm looking forward to joining the dm3 crowd
