Something's happened to my screen where there is a problem with the lights at the bottom. They don't seem to be turned on? I don't have a camera but I'll try to describe it:

On the bottom of the screen there are black or 'dim' patches every 2 inches or so where some lights aren't turned on, they are in an obvious order across the bottom of the screen. The max brightness of the screen is lower than it used to be because of it aswell. The dim patches are noticable now that I know they're there, but are highly noticable if it's an all-white background as the dark really contrasts witht he white.

I was messing with the screen earlier kind of bending it this way or that and for a minute it was working properly again, the dim spots disappeared and the whole screen got brighter.

Is their anything I can do to fix this myself? I can't send it away as I'm abroad now

What's the correct dirver for the intel GPU on the DM4T-1000 ?

I was under the impression its this one:

    http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=19761&ProdId=3231&lang=eng

    File name:
    Win7Vista_64_15218.exe

    Version:
    15.21.8.64.2279

    * Download

    Date:
    01/07/2011
    Status:
    Latest
    Size:

However I'm getting an error when I try to install the driver: The driver being installed is not validated for this computer. Please obtain the appropriate driver from the computer manufacturer. Setup will exit.

rfisher983: When I had my dm4, even the HP updater would choose that driver for me. It would fail to install as you describe. Do you have a Radeon GPU as well, though? I suspect that the kind of switching it does necessitates a special combined driver package you can get only from HP, whenever they update it. I never tried with mine, but I think there's something called MobilityModder you can try if you want to at least update the ATI part of the drivers. (Regular Catalyst drivers probably won't work for the same reason as for these Intel drivers.)

Yeah, I have ATI as well as the Intel. So you're season uninstall the Radeon drivers and try installing the intel's? I'm able to install the latest Radeons just fine.

I don't think so; the Intel driver package would be for those dm4 models that only have integrated graphics. The ATI package from HP has drivers for both cards already, and they have to be updated in one of those combined packages rather than with the video card manufacturers' standard drivers. The Intel-only package then wouldn't apply to models with a Radeon, even if the HP updater erroneously says so.

Well my old HP pavillion dv1207 finally ran its course. It's been a great pc but it was time to move on to a new pc. This computer has been so reliable and fun to own, I knew I had to get another Hp Pavillion. So I went with this,
HP Pavilion dm4t customizable Notebook PC
    • Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
    • Intel Core i5-560M Dual Core Processor (2.66 GHz, 3MB L3 Cache) with Turbo Boost up to 3.2GHz
    • 1GB ATI Mobility Radeon(TM) HD 6370 DDR3 Switchable Graphics [HDMI, VGA]
    • 4GB DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm)
    • 500GB 7200RPM Hard Drive with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection
    • High Capacity 6 Cell Lithium Ion Battery (standard)
    • 14.0" diagonal High-Definition HP BrightView LED Display (1366 x 768)
    • SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-R/RW with Double Layer Support
    • HP TrueVision Webcam and Fingerprint Reader
    • Intel Wireless-N Card
    • Standard Keyboard
reg price was $1114 but with $150 in instant rebate and a $150 discount coupon from logicbuy I got it for,
    Order subtotal $814.99
    Taxes are $67.24
    Recycling fee* $6.00
And the Grand total was $888.23
It's being built this week and I cant wait to get it some time next week or there abouts. Hopefully my new Pavillion will be as great and reliable as the one I'm typing on now!

    Hi guys,
I want to buy a new laptop which is easily portable and has enough power to play the 2010 games. The models I'm considering now are HP dm4 1219tx which has a 6370 GPU , Lenovo Ideapad y460 with a 5730 GPU and Acer TimelineX with a Geforce 540 GPU.

I like to hear your opinion about the screen, speakers and battery life of the dm4 with a 6370 GPU.

1)How much battery life I will get on this laptop while playing an 1080p movie with WiFi, bluetooth and everything internet related things off?

    2) How is the screen on this thing compared to other models?

    3) How is the speakers compared to the other models I specified ?

I hope you people give me valuable suggestions for picking the best one among these laptops. Also is there any other models I should consider other than these models.(Budget - 900$)

Hi guys, I've got yet another problem.

I have my DM4 at university, connected to an external monitor most of the time in my flat, but also often disconnect it and take it to the library / lectures / whatever. Two weeks ago I went to turn on my laptop and after Windows 7 (64bit) not being able to boot, and then running a diagnostic, that Windows corrupted its own boot drivers. I fixed it and it was all working fine.

However, later on I went to disconnect the laptop from my external monitor and found out that the laptop is unable to detect the internal monitor as a display, and it just shows up black. I can change the backlight up or down, but nothing shows on the screen.

When I connect it back to an external monitor, the image shows perfectly on it and I can use it like a normal pc. :/ I tried rebooting three times, and on the third attempt the screen randomly came to life (before it wasnt even showing the BIOS screen) and then it did.

Once it worked, it worked 100% perfectly, being connected or disconnected from a monitor, until today. The same thing happened, and now I cannot use the internal monitor. I've tried resetting, rebooting, running in safe mode, etc, and nothing has fixed it.

    Any suggestions?
I've been told maybe the screen is broken, but with it "fixing itself randomly" a few weeks ago, I have a slight amount of hope that it will do it again.

    Thanks.

It sounds like a hardware problem...
Either the backlight is out (glitchy connection might be the reason behind the random "fixing itself"), or the display is totally busted. See if you can see anything at all on the screen; under a really bright light you might be able to catch a glimpse of what should be on the display then you'll know if it's the backlight or not.

I tried the intel driver, but unfortunately it breaks the hybrid setup. This is because the intel drivers provided by HP is signed by ATI. After I tried the intel drivers the intel manager disappeared from the system tray. (I can still access it by right clicking the desktop).

I have upgraded to the new AMD catalyst, but I think that it only updates the catalyst manager and not the actual display drivers. (I use the new catalyst because its more eye-friendly than the old ATI Catalyst one.)

Unfortunately, we cannot install Windows 7 SP1 till we get new intel drivers.

Note: I think I used the ATI\AMD references correctly.

Hmm, I thought about this but I didnt think it was a hardware problem, more a software problem where it doesnt recognise the internal monitor being used. The last thing I tried was the completely remove the driver for the display, by uninstalling it and then restarting the computer, with the external monitor still plugged in.

And bingo, it worked (as far as im aware this wasn't a coincidence), so now the laptop internal screen is working. :)

I've been either hibernating or putting the laptop to sleep between uses now, but when I shut it down later today I'll update this as to how it gets on.

Thanks for the help anyway.. still poses at a bit of a mystery to me!

The one on the stock dm4, I believe, is the Intel GMA HD, which should be perfectly fine for playing CS:S at high quality. However, Call of Duty is another story. The best you could do is MAYBE Modern Warfare 1, but it would run incredibly slow for an FPS.

Finally, I figured out how to update the intel drivers.

^ PNG attached to show uncompressed-true-scale of pure awsomeness.

The answer lies within the drivers of HP Envy 14. Here's how to do it.

1- Go to Phyxion, download and install the Driver Sweeper.
2- Go to the HP site an download the sp50656.exe file.
3- Uninstall ALL ATI drivers (You can express uninstall All ATI software.)
4- Reboot the machine into safe mode.
5- Use Driver Sweeper to uninstall AMD-Display leftovers.
    6- Reboot machine.
7- Go to Device manager and, if ATI HDMI audio is disabled, enable it. (System Devices -> High Definition Audio Controller). IDK, but it got disabled for me one time. After that, reinstall didn't disable it.
8- Install the ATI drivers using the sp50656.exe file.
9- (Optional) Download the newest AMD drivers to upgrade Catalyst manager. (Its much user-friendly than the default one.)
10- ??? -- This step could be perhaps uninstalling Driver Sweeper. :p
    11- Profit!! :D

Note: You cannot update the driver unless you uninstall it first; Updating to any version without uninstalling just updates the catalyst manager and install manager only.
Unfortunately, you only can do this with x64. In 32-bit windows, no updated version seem to exist (I am not sure if sp50656.exe works for x86 too).

AND Windows 7 SP1 x64 shows up in Windows Update!!!

Ok, I shut down my computer yesterday and the same thing happened, I now cannot use my internal monitor again. Is there any way I can update the driver - I found out its version 6.1.7600.16385 - or reinstall it by downloading it somewhere?
I think this is the reason for the problems, maybe I need to restore it all to get it working again? :(

I hope someone will see this...

My HP DM4 freezes after sleep.
When I close the lid, it goes to sleep. When I open the lid, I get the windows logon screen. I click my user name, get into the desktop and... FREEZE.
    Nothing helps but hard-shutdown.

I went to the drivers section here in the forum, updated EVERYTHING even BIOS.

    Any solution?

Yeah, that's what I'm afraid of...
    I just don't want to.

But a question: I've read many reviews on the DM4 and many users said that their computer freezes. I have not suffered from that problem at all.
It all began when I installed all latest updates + latest BIOS.
Could the BIOS be the problem?
Should I try to downgrade the BIOS or not to play with this thing at all?

    hey guys,

from reading around in this forum i noticed most people are having some problems resuming from sleep with ati graphics, i am facing the same problem and i couldn't find a solution.

tried to rely only on intel graphics but the hdmi output on my dm4 only supports ati graphics and cant be run on intel.

can anyone please guide me to a solution for either resuming from sleep or for outputting hdmi on intel hd graphics?

Re: the not waking from sleep issue.
I had a similar problem and the quick workaround is adjusting the Power Plan to disable sleep mode.

As described as one of the options of many in this HP Help KB:
Resolving Problems with Sleep and Hibernation Mode HP Pavilion dm4-1001tu Entertainment Notebook PC - HP Customer Care (United States - English)

The Power Plan can be accessed by right-clicking the battery icon in the system tray. I set the 'Sleep' options to 'never' and have had no problem since then.

I know that's not a fix but it'll make the notebook user friendly again. Or you can go thru the various trouble shooting trial and error methods to seek out the offending issue. I went for the quick fix.

    Hope this is helpful.

I really hope a coupon comes out for the dm4t at some point in the near future. I'd love to snag one of these up for my mom to replace this crap toshiba best buy scammed her into getting. The dv6t SE that I just got and gave to my little brother is ridiculously great. SO quiet and yet it performs all tasks effortlessly. Very impressed so far. Here's to hoping it continues to excel. And as far as the hardware there was thankfully no quality issues.

The reason I gave the new dv6t to my bro is so I could use his old laptop until the Ivy Bridge Envy line comes out. Anyways any current owners of the dm4t have any recommendations as far as specs?

Is the 1600x900 screen pretty good for the price?

Yeah it seems like a ghost town. I'm gonna look at Amazon and YouTube to see if there are any current reviews/unboxings....

It looks like a nice very compact and light laptop. The only thing that concerns me is the 1600x900 resolution...

I'm also interested in the new dm4 :D

I just want to know how good the screen is, though. I was REALLY impressed with the 17-inch 1920x1080 anti-glare screen on the dv7. I'm not expecting the 1600x900 screen to be that good, but I hope it's good.

I'd love to get this laptop through Costco, but they don't let you get it in silver (even though the picture shows it in silver).

Still, I think I might be getting this laptop...

Has anyone found a solution for hp dm4t not resuming from sleep? When I close the lid and reopen, sometimes it wakes up and sometimes power button led blinks without the system waking up. The only way to resolve that is to remove the power cord, battery and then boot up again. This is a very annoying issue, hopefully someone in this forum knows how to solve this

Solution for hp laptop not waking up from sleep

Since last year I was having problem with HP laptop dm4t. My computer was intermittently not resuming from sleep. After opening the lid, power button led and wireless button led used to blink but computer did not wake up. I had to remove battery and then restart to recover.
I think I have successfully traced down this problem to the intel hd driver version 8.771.1.0 (or any version higher than 8.712.0.0) . You can see if you have this installed by going to Control Panel-->System-->Device Manager-->Display Adapters-->Intel HD Graphics and then clicking on Driver tab. This driver needs to be downgraded to the version (8.712.0.0). Only way to do this correctly is to uninstall both (a) ATI Mobility Radeon (b) Intel HD Graphics by right clicking on their names in the device manager (c) uninstall ATI Control Panel

After doing this you should see these two disappear from device manager. Then restart your computer. After reboot, windows will automatically install the driver for you. It will ask you to reboot but DONT DO THAT. Download sp48301 from hp support website and using it install ATI Driver. Then download sp49553 and do custom install to skip ATI driver and install everything else (as you want to keep the driver installed by sp48301).

After installing reboot this once more.

Then, again go to the device manager and check the driver version, it should show 8.712.0.0. This is it, never upgrade again to the newer drivers.

so i just recieved my dm4 today and installed the nortan free 60 trial and deleted some of the hp bloatware like the game and stuff and skype, computer is running smooth but occasionally when im not doing anything the little spinning blue thinking circle apears even if im on desktop and not doing anything,

this is the first new laptop ive ever bought (previous have been hand me downs) so when i say its running great i mean better then 2.00 ghz from a pentium 4, so i just want to know if its normal for it to be thinking so damn much...

ive run norton and cc cleaner and everything has come back fine execpt for some cookies that it took care of, so anyone ever have this issue?

EDIT: also i look at the task car and i dont seem to be running anything heavy except for the IEXPLORER, DESKTOP MANAGER , AND WINDOWS EXPLORER , other then that everything seems to be working undering 5,000k

This thread doesn't seem too alive, but maybe someone can help me.
I have switchable graphics and connected to computer to my tv using HDMI while using built in Intel graphics. Then I switched to the ATI graphics processor. Now I try to switch back to the Intel and it won't let me while I'm connected to the external monitor. Or when I am using Intel graphics and plug in the monitor, it automatically switches to the ATI card. Anyone know a remedy that allows me to use my Intel graphics and the monitor?

As a side note, since I clean installed the OS 2 years ago, I can't disable my trackpad and the little orange light in the corner never comes on. Anyone know how to fix that too?

HDMI only works with ATI graphics. Onboard Intel graphics does not support it.

Not sure on the orange light deal... Maybe try some different drivers off of HP's site?

    Hello everyone.
I own a Dm4t-1100 laptop I bought a year ago with these specs:

    Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-430M Dual Core processor (2.26GHz, 3MB L3 Cache) with Turbo Boost up to 2.53GHz
    Intel(R) HD Graphics [HDMI, VGA]
    4GB DDR3 System Memory (1 Dimm)
    14.0" diagonal High-Definition HP BrightView LED Display (1366 x 768)
500GB 7200RPM Hard Drive with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection

For some reason, the laptop suddenly stopped turning on. Very rarely it turns on for a minute, windows 7 begins the boot procedure, but suddenly the screen turns black, and the whole laptop hangs. This sudden "revival" is very random and happens after many trials.
The laptop didn't fall and doesn't seem to have any physical damage.

I took it to a local PC lab, and they told me the motherboard has broken and needs replacement, and since replacements here in Israel are very hard to find and very expensive, I was looking to buy one from ebay or sites abroad.

the problem is that I'm having problems finding the right product number or any reliable place to find a replacement, so I'd be grateful if anyone knew the specific product number.

If anyone has any idea about a possible cause for this problem which might help, I'd be extremely grateful.

    Best regards;
