    Hello,
I'm sure there have been posts regarding this or something similar, but I can't find anything for my specific issue. If anyone can direct me to another thread that would be fine.

Here's my situation...I purchased an HP dv6000z (this is an AMD system). This comes with Vista installed. I thought that would be fine, but come to find out that some software that I absolutely need to run my business isn't Vista ready yet. It is supposed to be, but it isn't...but that's a whole other story. So I decided I needed to go back to XP and I can upgrade to Vista in the future. So I researched the process and have made it, without issue until now, to the point of installing the drivers. I have all of the drivers I need for my notebook.

I installed the UAA driver without issue. I then tried to install the Audio driver. The media wasn't being recognized, so I had to go to the device manager and manually install the driver. This worked. I then tried to install the nVidia chipset and network driver. It would install when I just ran the .exe file so I was going to to through the same process as with the audio driver but I can't figure out which device that driver belongs to. I have several devices lised under Other devices with the yellow question marks. Shouldn't the drivers just install when you run the .exe files for them? Or do I actually have to go through the device manager, do an update driver and then find the .inf file for the driver?

Please help...I feel like I'm so close to completion, but I just can't finish the job. It's driving me crazy and killing a lot of time.

    Thanks in advance.

Well, what all drivers did you install?

Typically the dv6000z for Win XP would require:

    AMD cpu driver
    Nvidia chipset includes the ethernet
    Broadcom wireless drivers
    Nvidia graphics drivers.
    Media card reader
    HP quicklaunch buttons driver
    synaptics touchpad
    Bluetooth(if equipped)

The other devices seems to be the media card reader drivers or the HP quicklaunch.

Sorry for the late reply...I had to step away from this for a while.

Here is where I'm at...I have gone through the list of drivers that are "supposed" to work (provided by HP) and when I look at the device manager I still have several devices that look like they still need drivers (see the list below).

OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller
    Coprocessor
    Ethernet Controller
    Ethernet Controller
    HP Integrated Module
Modem Device on High Definition Audio Bus
    SM Bus Controller
    Unknown device
    Video Controller (VGA Compatible)

Some drivers did not install properly (obviously I guess).

HP has not been much help at all. They just keep telling me to go back to Vista. The thing is I cannot do this because I need XP for the software I need to use. I did find a thread that talked about doing some modifications to drivers, but that was for a different model notebook and to be honest I don't completely understand how that works.
