I noticed a good portion of the HP dv8000t drivers seem outdated on the HP website.

Does HP configure the drivers specially for each system or do they just pull them from the Intel site?

I was wondering if there would be any performance gains to be seen if I downloaded the newest versions of the Chipset, AHCI Controller etc. from the Intel website.

    Thanks

Edit: Also if I have a copy of Windows XP Pro from my old laptop, will I have any issues reformatting with that if I disable SATA and install all the drivers?

    Thanks

While it may seem that some of the drivers are out of date, a couple of them are only available from the HP site. I have listed them in order of installation which helps to minimized any errors.

From the Intel site, you will want to download the following:

    INF Update Utility v8.1.1.0
Floppy Configuration Utility - IntelĀ® Matrix Storage Manager v8.1.1.0
(you will need WinImage to extract this floppy image.)

Of the list of drivers here are the ones you should get from the HP site:

    Intel PRO/Wireless Drivers v5.00E
Intel PRO Network Adapter Drivers v1.00A
Microsoft Universal Audio Architecture (UAA) Bus Driver for HD Audio v1.00A
Conexant HD Audio Soft Data Fax Modem with SmartCP v7.33.00.51A
Conexant High Definition Audio Drive v3.21.0.0A
Nvidia GeForce Go 7400 and 7600 Graphics Driver v8.4.5.4A
Support Software for HP Intergrated Module with Bluetooth v4.00E
Texas Instruments Media Card Driver v2.0.0.2A
    HP Quick Launch Buttons v6.00D
    Synaptics Touchpad Drivers v8.3.4

If you are wanting to use Lightscribe, go to http://www.lightscribe.com and get:

    Lightscribe System Software Update
    Extended Label Contrast Utility
    SureThing 4 SE
    Assorted additional backgrounds.

Once you install all these installed, go out to WindowsUpdate and start installing all the updated patches to the OS. I would avoid using the Synaptics driver from Windows Update. I have found it to have a slight issue keeping your settings you may have set in the driver previously.

    Enjoy.
