After looking at many different laptops at the usual places like Best Buy, CC, etc. I think I have settled on the dv line.
For a full size lcd 15 - 17 inch, which will have nice sound and picture quality for watching movies, in addition to digital image processing/display, Internet and Office 2007 applications, are there any real good choices which I could probably find at Best Buy (on sale?) for not more than about $1,2000.00 tops, or even under $1,000.00 with 3 gigs RAM, and a dedicated graphics card?
I may be somewhat unrealistic in my price expectations, but I want something that I don't feel will drown me in payments, yet will give me something I will be happy with too.
Thanks VERY much for all advice on this.

    Let me try rewording this.

Does anyone have a dv series laptop you like that is less than $1,200.00?

Thanks much. Sounds great. I will read the reviews. Hope Best Buy has that model.

dv5z, on hp.com now. Expect them at Best Buy within weeks but you'll probably have to buy direct from HP to get dedicated graphics. Get it with 64-bit Vista Home Premium, 2GB RAM, then swap in either a GSkill or Crucial 4GB DDR2-800 SODIMM kit. Wait a bit and the dv7z will be out.
