Which do you think is better? I personally like the look of the dv1000, but then there are certian things on the dv4000 I like better (like battery life for the 12 cell batt). I like the USB port placement better on the dv1000, because if I was using my USB flash drive on the dv4000 there would only be 2 usable ports left anyway (There's not enough space in between the ports on either side of the notebook). The integrated graphics isn't that big of a deal to me, I will be upgrading the RAM to 1 GB anyway. I also like the Harman Kardon speakers and the 2 headphone jacks on the dv1000. But which one do you think is better?
Thanks

The 1000 is more portable than the 4000, weighing a pound less. So if portability is more important to you, go with the dv1000.

right, details aside these notebooks are just very similar and (of course) from the same company and so you'll get the same support, so portability is the only factor to consider. this is totally a personal decision.

you can get higher screen res with the 4000

The 12 cell battery works for both models and I think you actually get a little more battery life out of the DV1000.

I chose the dv4000 for the better chipset and video (the extra USB port is nice, too). The larger screen size is also nice, but the whole chassis is a lot bigger by comparison. I do wish that the dv4000 had a touchpad on/off switch like the dv1000 has, but it's not that big a deal. The better speakers in the dv1000 were appealing, but it's not often I'll be listening thru them.
All things considered, it was almost a coinflip until it came to the chipset and video. I've been very pleased with the dv4000 so far. -
whats best place to get a good deal on hp notebooks? i am looking to buy hp pavilion dv4000.
Costco has it for $1299 1.73GHz Intel Centrino, 15.4" screen, 1GB mem, 80GB HD, DVDRW, 6.5 lbs. I am not sure how much of a better deal I could possibly get elsewhere. This pretty much the configuration I am looking for
Dell publishes coupons regularly and its see on sites like edealinfo.com. Does HP/Compaq have such patron sites for me to work out a better deal?
I would really appreciate your tips
thx -
Thanks for all your replies. I'll do a little more research on them and see what I can find about each of them, and see for sure which one I like better.
Shyam, tou can try Circuit City or Best Buy. Circuit city always has pretty good deals, and Best Buy has weekly sales, look around at different places and try to find the best deal.
Edit:Here's a dv4000 at circuit City for $1,199(I'm not sure if it's got all you need

Jesusfrk611: thanks for the input and the link.
btw, incase you were considering buying too, i think the costco deal is better than the circuit city one in this particular case . Mainly because the ckt city one is $1199 (after $200 rebate) with 512MB and the costco deal is $1299 with 1GB mem. if you addup the tax on the extra $200 (say about $16) and cost of extra $512MB memory, the rates would be pretty much same. But ... costco has a much better store return policy incase of any issues. you might have to keep that in mind too since the dv4000 is out in the market for only about a few months now.
thanks for your inputs
