Yes, it's plastic. I recommend going to your local Best Buy or Circuit City to see one if you are thinking about purchasing it.

It's a pretty well built notebook. The full size keyboard has a bit of flex, but it still relativley pleasant to type on. 12-cell battery give you 5 hours of battery life. I'd recommend the notebook for a portable, multimedia-centric notebook. ;)

5 hours on the 12 cell? I've heard its more like 6-7. Yeah, it is plastic, but pretty well built for the price you pay.

I've been considering the dv1000 very seriously. Much more so until I saw it in Circuit City.

It is plastic and is VERY flexible and felt like perhaps the most flimsy build quality I've seen from any notebook.

The plastic is textured and in most places felt not much more substantial than the plastic a normal credit card is made from. For instance, push down anywhere with one finger and you can achieve serious flex in the outer shell.

Holding the machine by one of ths short sides looking across the top is clearly flexes and wobbles.

I am still considering it becuase of it's price and what I want to use it for but it's becoming a VERY scary option for me.

    Good luck.

I had a 12-cell on my unit that got stolen, and I've ordered another DV1000 with a 12-cell . I never tried to get 7 hours use out of it, but based on the % charge left after a couple of longer plane flights I took, 7 hours might be overstating it. Five for sure, 6 possibly, I guess depending on what you're doing with it. I never ran out of charge, though.
