can anyone who bought the dv1040us from circuit city confirm that it is actually a DVD+/-RW and not just +RW as advertised...im thinking about purchasing this notebook as costco has a coupon for this one for $1,150 next week...thanks
-
hey i am buying the one at costco too next week.. i think the one at circuit city is the just the writer.... the costco deal is still the best as the return policy is like 12 months i think right???.. so u buying the laptop for sure??
-
i read somewhere, i think at circuit city customer review that while it is only advertised as DVD+RW, it can actually burn -RW, -R flawlessly....need confirmation on this before i can buy
-
on the site it does meantion that so i guess.. it is.... i think the one in the costco also does.... i am not sure though

implayaz9,
Slight correction: Costco will accept returned computers for SIX months. In their words:
"Costco Wholesale's return policy for all desktop and notebook computers is six months from date of purchase. After the six-month return window, all services and technical support will be subject to the remaining manufacturer's warranty, where applicable."
But your point is still a good one. What other stores allow you to return a notebook SIX months after purchase?!
This policy saved me from owning HP's unsupported iPAQ h4355 for good. When I saw that this device would not receive the Windows Mobile 2003 SE update despite a 14,652 signature petition, I worried. When HP would not allow this otherwise awesome device to work with Windows Media Player 10, I quit hoping for the best. Costco took it back with no questions.

Before anyone buys the DV1000 at Costco, I would recommend you price it out on hpshopping.com and see if you're really saving anything (unless the money doesn't matter to you). You will pay sales tax at Costco, and HP only charges tax in a couple of states. I found it cheaper online than Costco, even with the Costco discount coupon. Of course, you do have to wait 2 or 3 weeks for it to be FedEx'ed from Shanghai.

i think the price at costco for this dv 1040 is about 1100.. so.. how much would it be with tax and stuff.. i think the reason i like the deal is cause of the return policy too...
-
i did that last night...same config costco's $200 cheaper than the HP after CA tax and everything....here's costco's config:
pentium m 735 1.7ghz
dvd+rw
80gb
512mb RAM -
so its worth buying from costco right??.. 200bucks cheaper.. not bad
-
Just buy it, Yaar! You won't regret it.

ok.. YAAR!! i will buy it..
-
i don't have knowledge of the costco deal, but dont' forget to take into account that online you get an extra battery which i think is $99
good luck -
Wherever you buy it-- my unscientific opinion is that you're going to like it. I've had mine for a couple of weeks now, and it's great. Mine does not run hot, and the larger battery lasts easily 3 or 4 hours. The display and speakers are both great. Just buy it, and don't look back.

the reason i am deabting between dell 700m and the hp is cause.. dell has the home service which i can buy while the hp one u gotta send it.. and i have no time to send the laptop in case of problems..
-
I have had PCs since I was in High School and Home Service was never an issue for me. It would be different if I had a home business....
