Who is the manufacturer of your DV2000 / V3000 screen?

Right-click on your desktop, choose "Graphics Properties", click "Information", then select the notebook tab.

If the serial number has "AUO" it is AU Optronics, "QDS" is Quanta, "SEC" is Samsung, LG is LG. I am not aware of any others but I am including that as an option also.

I have one with an AUO and one with a QDS screen, I wanted to know if HP is using one more over the other lately, because I want to order another one.

QDS and SEC screens are mostly in retail versions, AUO in CTOs. BTW, when you copy somebody's post from another forum, you should attribute it accordingly... and yes, that post was mine.

The ones in the retail stores seem to be the SEC screens. Which looks darker than other manuf. in the store.

My dv2000t screen is made by CMO (I guess its Chi Mei Optoelectronics a Tiwanese display company). The quality of display is very good. I got mine from Circuitcity (dv2035us).

interesting, I had a dv5000 with a SEC screen, and it was much nicer than the CMO I have in an Acer (also came with a dead pixel), but maybe CMO uses different panels in the Acer. The screen is nice, just doesn't go as bright as the SEC.

thanks, but this doesn't mean you can choose what manufacturer screen you get, does it? you're talking about just picking specs....but is screen one of them?

control panel -> system -> hardware -> device manager -> monitor -> right click -> details

isn't that what the instructions say?

oh yeah, out of the LG, SEC, and CMO laptops i've had, only CMO had dead pixels right out of box. for screen i like SEC the best because it's the most vibrant, but LG and CMO are VERY nice too...no as bright, but vibrant as well.

Ok, my CTO V3000 is an SEC.

I don't think it's as bright as the screen on the toshiba M series, but I always thought the M series was too bright...so works out well for me :)

This should work for everyone: control panel -> system -> hardware -> device manager -> click the "+" next to "monitor" -> dubble click whatever comes up below the "monitor" -> information -> then chose "hardware ID" or "device ID" or somthing like that

sry for the bad english :/

I just bought a dv2000t (from HP's website), and these forums were extremely helpful. I was very worried about the screen (less so the touchpad b/c I'll frequently use a wireless mouse) and thought I'd add another datum for future shoppers.

When I turned the computer on I thought the screen looked great, then I checked the manufacturer and it is indeed SEC. So, I was worried that actually the screen sucks and my standards are too low. I went to Fry's and looked at tons of LCDs and I still think this is a pretty good screen. So, I'm definitely keeping it (also, the touchpad works fine and there's no funny noise on battery that some other people have complained about).

So, here's my take on my SEC screen:
    1. Brightness-- very good. It has about 10 clicks of adjustment and I have it on 7/10.
    2. Light leakage-- there is a little bit at the bottom with a black screen (like at startup), but I can't see it during normal use.
    3. View angles-- ok, this is the one weakness. It definitely looks best straight on. However, the view angles were at least middle of the pack vs. other laptops at Fry's, including Macs, Toshibas, Sonys, and bigger HPs.
    4. vs other dv2000 screens-- at Fry's there was a dv2000t with an LPL screen. It certainly didn't seem superior to this SEC, although I didn't have them side by side.

Anyway, hope this adds a little more information for those who get an SEC screen. Given that I have no bad pixels and everything else about the computer seems fine, I'm pretty happy with it. Also, it shipped 10/26/06, so I just qualified for the free Vista coupon (I e-mailed customer support and verified that it is the ship date that matters, not when I purchased it from the website).

The SEC screens are awesome. The LPL is very nice too (maybe a little more contrast) but are slightly less bright.

Its just not LG but LG Philips. Their official name is LG Philips LCD. So thats why they use LPL instead of just LG...

I have an LG/Phillips LPL screen and I am very happy with it.

No dead pixels, nice contrast, vibrant, and barely any light leakage.

My brightness is set at 6/10.

just received my dv6500t (i know, it's not a dv2000 but i didn't see a thread for other models) and i got an SEC screen.....again. i had one on my previous dv6000t as well. i was hoping for a different screen just for the sake of getting a new screen. however, i'm not sure if i'm supposed to be bummed out about the SEC screen because it seems fine to me. how bright could a person possibly want a laptop screen? this one is plenty bright. and i'm not so much worried about the viewing angles because it's not a TV; it's always right in front of my face for the most part. i'm not exactly moving around the room from seat to seat when using it.

anyways...the SEC screen seems just fine. i don't even see why it wouldn't be if it's manufactured by Samsung. their LCD and DLP tv's are pretty dang good.
