    Hi All, long time reader first time poster, but I had to register to ask this question.

    I've just bought a HP dv2660se from the States, and since i want to look after my new lappy i set a Power on Password today.

    Now everytime i turn on my system, there is an LOUD beep as it prompts me for the password. its driving me nuts.

    i've been looking for a solution on google and here for the last 2 hours to no avail. worst thing is now i CANNOT EVEN DISABLE the password, of course i know what the password is but there doesnt seem to be a setting in the BIOS to clear the Power On Password once it is set. pressing "Enter" on it just allows you to set a new password.

    So thanks in advance to anyone who can help me, i will be eternally grateful to anyone who knows a solution. there must be other people out there who have had the same problem.

    Cheers,

    Vinny

    thanks for your reply but thats the thing... i cant

    when i reset it to factory settings is clears all the settings EXCEPT the power on password.

    when i press return on the "power on password" theres 3 options;

    Enter Old Password
    Enter New Password
    Confirm New Password

    besides hitting return on the "power on password" field or resetting the settings (F9 i think) there isnt anything else available. :confused: :confused: :confused: :confused:

    Enter Old Password <--- enter your bios password.
    Enter New Password <--- just press enter key , don't input anything.
    Confirm New PAssword <--- just press enter key, don't input anything.

    Then exit and save changes. Your password will be erased.
