Hi all!
New here and I have a problem with my dv2000.
Yesterday, my dv2000 decided to stop detecting the wireless network in our house. Actually it stopped detecting any wireless network in the neighborhood. The wireless switch is blue meaning that its on but when I open the Wireless Network Connection window, nothing is listed.
However, my wife's Dell laptop can access the network with no problem. I've even reset the network 3 times. There are also no ? or ! marks in my device manager.
So what causes a dv2000 on windows XP to stop detecting a wireless connection that it was just on earlier in the day?
Thank in advance for any help!!!

Your notebook is probably on this list:

A big problem that has been occurring with HP laptops is the Motherboard loses connection with the Wireless card and has to be replaced. It is a problem that HP recognized and extended the warranties on this problem for the laptops that were effected. You'll have to send the laptop in and they will end up replacing the motherboard in your laptop.
You could try uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers and software for the wireless card, but it is most likely the motherboard's connection with the wireless card. -
FYI. If you do send it in it is a good idea to back up everything that you want to save because most likely they will do a system recovey.

Just had the same problem with compaq v6000. Contacted HP and they will fix for free with free shipping.

Well, I guess HP tech support was somewhat helpful. I called them Monday and stayed on the phone for over 45 minutes. I ended up adding some active X software that allowed the tech guy to view my desktop. He checked a bunch of stuff but discovered exactly what I told him. The computer was not detecting any wireless networks but the wireless guard still shows up in the device manager with no ?s or !s.
He finally suggested doing a restore to an early date when it did work. After being put on hold again, I hung up and did the restore myself. Guess what, it worked. Up until about 30 minutes ago. Needless to say, I did another restore and its working again.
Never once did he offer to have the laptop fixed. I may call them back and tell them what has happened but it seems the only true fix is a repair. Hopefully I won't have to go through all the same mess again. -
Most likely they are not setting it up for service is because your network card is showing up in device manager. If you look at that page in detail it states for Dv2000 "The notebook does not detect wireless networks and the wireless adapter is not detected in the Device Manager". Yours has the card in device manager so it does not technically fall under that service enhancement.

I sort of figured that was the case. However, what is causing the problem with my laptop? Am I going to be stuck doing restores every few days until I decide to make the smart move to a Mac? -

Odds are that the hardware is in the process of failing, and if your notebook is on the list I linked to earlier I'd assume it. However, if there happen to be any 2.4GHz cordless phones nearby you should unplug them and see if that helps. Those things are evil, they'll often hose the whole 2.4GHz band.
