I recently purchased a dv2000t which I promptly formatted to remove all of the junk applications installed. I followed one of the many re-install guides posted here in the forum and resolved all conflicts in the system by following the driver installs recommended. Furthermore, the QuickPlay buttons work as well.

So, everything is working great and the computer runs much quicker, HOWEVER… I am finding that when I close the laptop lid and leave it for extended periods (overnight, etc.) that it will not wakeup from stand by mode when the laptop is reopened.

When opened, the only difference I have noted when opening the screen and it properly waking up vs. failing to wakeup is that the QuickPlay buttons are lit whereas they are dark if I go to start > shutdown > stand by.

Has anyone encountered a similar situation with any of the HP DV models? Do you think it could be a driver issue of some type? Thoughts… anything, HELP!!

If I can’t resolve this I may have to return to Costco =(

What happens if you close and re-open the lid a second or even third time? I used to have that issue occasionally on my e1505 when it slept for extended periods of time. It would wake up though if I closed and reopened it a few times.

    Just a thought.

Unfortunately that hasn't worked for me either. I've also tried the fn + F4 key to change display output in hopes that I would then be able to change back. It doesn't appear to have any effect at all.

    Hi,

I have a dv2108ea and closing/reopening the lid is not a problem to go in/out standby (the quick launch buttons always go dark in standby and light on resume). However the system takes AGES to resume from standby no matter how I put it in standby (shutdown menu, leaving it on until it goes in standby or closing the lid). It always takes about 1 minute to resume.....

    Any ideas?

I'll try to unload the quick launch buttons utility to see if this helps.

    mogrefy,

Did the unit work correctly BEFORE you formatted the drive, re-installed the OS? ... If so you're overlooking something and you should NOT at a drop of a hat return the unit to Costco, but instead be man/woman enough to work thru it...

That being said if anyone does feel a need to do return to Coscto keep in mind that if you return a unit thru Costco that it's not defective in some way, it's marked "resaleable" and it's sold off to a salvage company for 30 cents on the dollar in most Costco's. (which means a huge loss)

The main thing when returning a unit is to make SURE to state the reason for a return being there is something defective with the unit so Costco is not left holding the bag so to speak.

From my conversations with Costco on their returns, the way it works is if you return an item "quickly" that either you don't like, or is defective in some way they (Costco) gets a FULL credit back from the vendor (HP)...

(I would think this part of the return window is 21 days, seeing how any order placed direct thru HP is 21 days.)

After 21 days thru the 180th day Costco bears the loss... UNLESS the customer upon return of the item states there is something defective with the unit... If the customer returns the unit for any other reason Costco takes the loss..

Why should people care if Costco takes a loss? / be sure they do state there is a problem so the MFG takes the loss instead?

    Two reasons:

1: Well indirectly such losses affect us all in the form of higher prices, further restrictions on returns...
(Costco used to have a lifetime return window on computers, but college age kids mostly would buy a machine, use it for 6 months for a class, then return it, demanding their money back after using the machine for "free" for 6 months.)

2: If there is a problem, the MFG should be charged back the loss, not the reseller... here's an example in which the mfg should bear all costs: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=57325

Bottom line is don't return a unit, unless you have exhausted all options.. and be sure to state there is a problem with the unit, so it's not marked resaleable... Otherwise you can expect in the future further restrictions on returns, hassles, and increased prices...

Sounds like a Software problem. Make sure the power options settings are not set to hibernate after a specific amount of time. If this happens, the laptop would not come back instantly, it would require a press of the power button. Check your power options panel.

I was thinking the same thing, but got side tracked on the comment about returning the unit to Costco.

Costco is one of the few places left that allow you to return a unit for 180 days without a hassle.

BTW: I've got a nx6325 (RB526UT#ABA) that I put a fresh copy of XP PRO on it... and it goes to "sleep" after a certain set time. After it's gone to sleep I have to press the power button to get it to come back up. (I keep the lid open most of the time)

If it was me, I'd consider doing a system restore on it to verify the hardware is "ok", if I couldn't find a quick fix. Could be a hardware problem... Just because it's new... doesn't mean it's "good".
