Hi, I'm considering the HP dv2000t and would like to hear some facts and experiences from you owners in here, may it be positive or negative. I just need your opinions about this laptop, as it would help me make a decision.

    Greatful for any help!

It is great.. I like the design very much. Since it is a mobile laptop, I care very much about the heat discipation. Apparently, Core 2 Duo is doing an excellent job of maintaining its temperature. It is a little bit warm on the arm rest, but it is never burning hot even when you play 3D intensive gaming. The bottom is a bit warmer, especially the hard drive compartment (but that's virtually true for all laptops even Thinkpad X series).

As for battery...yeah.. that's the down side about this laptop. With C2D T7200 and nVidia Geforce 7200 Go, I am only getting a little bit over 2 hours (with wireless turned on). I wouldn't recommnd the extended battery either because it just doesn't fit well in computer case. Plus, when you place it on the desk, the laptop would be tilted forward. They say it can improve the ergonomics, but since I study ergonomics, I disagree. If you want something that's really ergonomic, do your wrists a big favor by buying a Microsoft Natural Ergonomic keyboard.

The touchpad is okay.. I can't say I love it, but since my hand is never sweaty, so I have no issue moving the cursor around. Sometimes, the cursor does jump around, so that's an annoyance.

Oh it does run Windows Vista (with aero effect) rather well, minus the microphone and QuickPlay.

The touch sensitive media buttons are great, minus the beeping sound. Everytime I wake the machine from standby mode, the machine would beep, so it is something you will have to get used to.

In terms of build quality, it is great, but not business class great. Compare it to Compaq Evo or IBM/Lenovo Thinkpad, you definitely need to take good care of your laptop...not to drop it and all. Compare it to Dell Inspiron or Latitude, yes, DV2000t is definitely sturdier.

    Hope that helps.

thanks ThunderRiver! anyone else who would like to share their experiences about this laptop?

Another question, dv2000t is only available with Intel® Core™ Duo processor T2050 where I live, will it be possible to upgrade to a core 2 duo later on?

Same problem here buddy. HP India also doesnt allow any customization so the only models they offer in Pavilion range are with T2050 processor. I asked them whether it was possible to change the processor but they said no.

Is the T2050 sufficiently good processor? I mean how does it compare to the T2300?

@Xeress - I recently bought the dv2000t (this is my first laptop). I would rank everything about the laptop decent to very decent (keyboard, battery, heat dissipation, remote, ease of use, build quality and undeniable cool looks). My montitor (a CMO make) is nice, bright and vivid, but I do notice light leakage at the bottom, and the viewing angles are quite restricted. If you are an avid gamer then you may have to compromise a bit as the GPU options available for this system are low key ones. All in all if you are on a budget (< $1000k) then there might not be a better available option (but for the Dell E1505, esp if u need a better GPU and don't mind compromising on looks and the display to some extent).

@gr81 - I have a friend who is an HP employee in India and he said that customization is possible (you might check with some friend who works for HP), though I have heard that the core 2 duo has not yet become available in HP India laptops.
