So I have dv2500t with the upgraded nVidia graphics card, that supports HDMI. I bought a cable from a friend at best buy, hoping to be able to watch movies on my tv in better quality than with VGA.

After configuring the audio card to send the sound via HDMI, I plugged it into the TV and laptop. When I turned the TV on, it looked like crap. This was nearly as bad as s-video quality.

I tried every screen resolution they gave me and none of them looked any better (I even tried the nVidia preset choices for 480i, 720p, and 1080i). The TV's natural resolution is 1366x768, which isnt a choice on the HDMI out, but is on the VGA, which is probably why VGA looks so much better at the moment.

Oh, also when I use HDMI about 3 or 4% of the screen is cut off on all 4 sides.

I appreciate any help I can get. Thanks.

Also, I just remembered that on some resolutions, the outer portions of the screen turn green.

I wish I could try it on another TV (or another HDMI input into mine) to see if it is my laptop, the TV, or the cable.

According to my experience, the key point is your TV, I've tried Panasonic 42 plasma, sylnavia 29" LCD, Olevia 24", 32" LCD.only the olevia ones can get 1920X1080 easily.the others just got the same issues as yours. Some said that's because the different design between monitor TV and tv Monitor.

To follow up on an OLD thread, I'd like to point out that I tried it on a Sony Bravia 32" with HDMI and it worked flawlessly. So, for anyone having HDMI out problems, odds are it's the TV's compatability issues.

Any chance HDMI would work perfectly with a Samsung HD LCD tv 32" ?

Never actually tried yet but im thinking of getting HDMI cables later since their cheap anyway

I have no idea. I'd try it though since you can get a good cheap HDMI cable for under $20...
