Hey everyone! This is my first post after reading this forum for months!

I have been looking to purchase the dv2550se, available exclusively at BestBuy. I contact HP, because I was curious if it was possible to play 5.1 channel audio through a set of 5.1 external speakers. The rep. said that the 2 headphone ports and the mic port would serve as 5.1 hookups for my 5.1 speaker system. Does anyone else know this to be true on their HP laptop before I make the purchase? Thanks for your help!

    Sheldon

I don't think so, because the Mic port only works as Input not output. Your are probably able to use them buying one of does cable that give more out put.

There are two mic ports on the dv2000--the middle one is stereo, the one on the right is 5.1

The DV2550SE has three ports on the front of the laptop.

from left to right >> MIC | Headphone | Audio Out (S/PDIF on select models)

I just picked it up today, and have yet to play with it. I'll make another post confirming it.

The second and third port are both heaphone ports, but you can use the third one with a mini-toslink cable and connect it to a 5.1 capable receiver.
