So I installed XP on my laptop which essentially deleted all the old HP software. And now I want to go back to Vista. Since theres no program to do it, I'm kind of lost. However I see the HP recovery hard drive still. Is there still a way to revert back to Vista or would I need to get a copy of Vista and install it from there?

Suck. DONT ASK ME WHY but for some reason the C partition controls the F11 function for the recovery manager. If C is formatted or corrupted then you cannot use it again. Some notebooks in their driver site on HP.com have the recovery manager that will re-attach the partition though. Yours doesnt have this option.

Your best bet is to use the recovery disks you were supposed to make and if you did not make them then you will have to purchase a set. I recommend calling HP for those because ive been seeing the wrong ones being sent from hp.com even though its the same ordering system.

Best thing ive found so far in repairing it. I have no tested it at all though so good luck.

I just have to get on the soap box for a minute. When are you folks going to learn to make the 'Recovery Discs' you should have made when you first opened and turned on your computer. The problem you have encountered seems to happen daily on one of these forums. If you succeed in reverting back to Vista from the following instructions, promise me you will make your recovery discs. Off soap box.

Assuming your Recovery Partition is completely intact, try this to recover:

Go into Control Panel, Select Administrative Tools>Computer Management then Select Disk Management under Storage.

Right Click on the Disk Partition that your Recovery Partition is on and “Mark the Partition as Active”. Close all screens and Reboot your computer. Your computer should boot from the recovery partition and you may be able to recover to Vista. Just follow the instructions presented during recovery.
