I have until Monday to return / exchange this laptop with Staples.

I had a dv6000 that I liked, but I decided to "downgrade" to the more portable dv2000. I returned the dv6000 to Future Shop, and got the dv2817ca from Staples.

After almost two weeks though I've noticed a couple "deficiency's" that I'd like to ask you guys about...

The first is "looseness" or "creaky-ness" in the chassis. Most noticeable is under the right wrist rest. The plastic feels loose and creaks when I add or remove pressure to the top.

The second is that the screen / lid does not close properly.

The left side does not sit flush with the keyboard like it should. The right side is fine. If I apply pressure to the lid, but close the hinge, then it closes properly.

Am I going to exchange this laptop, only to find that other laptops will do the same thing?

As you can see, it leaves around 1/4" of play between the screen and the chassis. Lame.

Hm... I have a dv2700t and it has been working perfectly. The lid closes and there is hardly any flex. I am VERY happy with my dv2700t. However, I got it straight from HP; I am always wary when buying laptops from a third party source.
