I own a hp dv2845se that wont boot. Has no video. From the research I've done, the AMD processor in the 2500 series is defective causing the board to go bad. Is this right? And if it is, is there a way to put an intel board in there? I just dont want to replace the board and have this problem happen all over again. I love the laptop and I want to keep using it. Thank you in advanced.

I think there is also a chance your nvidia GPU failed.
A lot of the 7xxx, 8xxx and 9xxx series chips were faulty.

Make sure the intel board you get has an intel integrated IGP and not an nvidia GPU.

Where should I go about getting a board? I cant find the board, cpu and heatsink combo anywhere on ebay.

yeah, ive been looking through that getting part numbers. Am I going to need to replace anything besides the mainboard/cpu and heatsink? There are alot of part numbers that differ between amd and intel. Also, would it be a dv2500 or dv2700? And do I want a board with discrete graphics subsystem, one with a UMA graphics subsystem or one with a WWAN module. Those are my 3 options

discrete graphics subsystem is probably a bad idea, but the motherboard should come with a warranty so if you only need the notebook to last for that warranty period then it should be fine.

Otherwise it sounds like the UMA graphics subsystem motherboard is the one which is the safe bet, slower GPU but less chance of failing.

Don't know what the 3rd one has, maybe email them and ask?

Yeah I might. I may just try to go with another amd board. I want to do this cheaply. If the Amd boards im looking at haven't died yet, chances are the GPUs on them should be not defective. Is that good thinking ?

Unfortunately, your notebook does not seem to be covered by the NVIDIA settlement. From the HP website, I can tell that your product number is KN999UA#ABA, and that is not listed on the site's affected models list.

However, your battery may be affected by a current recall by HP.
