Anybody have problems with touch volume control buttons?

At first it use to display a volume meter on screen when i was trying to adjust the volume now not so much. I don't know what I changed for this volume metre thing to disappear.

Anybody try out the eSata port? Any stability issues? I find my external drive keeps on disconnecting via this port

I bought the dv3510nr last week when it was on sale at Best Buy for $1099, and I have to say that it's a great little laptop. It's speedy, the screen is bright and crisp, and it's got a lot of nice little additional features that make it a worthwhile purchase. It can even handle some minor gaming pretty decently.

Does anyone have a case or a sleeve for this model yet?

    Hello everyone. My first post.
I went to get a dv3510nr at Best buy last night. When I was about to check out, the lady told me that it woud be a $40 extra charge as this one had been "optimized" by the Geek Squad. Apparently, they made sure it worked, installed updates, took out some blotware and made a backup disk. I told the lady that I wanted to do that myself and I did not want to pay the fee. Since it ws the only one in stock, she offered to call another store to see if they had any!

Don't think i have an issue with the volume meter, i did get irritated at first though as i was doing it the wrong way...stabbing on the - and + button, but after reading this review http://www.laptopmag.com/review/laptops/hp-pavilion-dv3510nr.aspx i realise i just have to slide right and left...

    i have a laptop bag so no case/sleeve for it...its a fingerprint/oil magnet though :|

this is quite crappy...the dv3510nr has almost no bloatware...maybe the Norton if you consider it to be one....you mean to say they have already opened up the seal on the box, used it and want to sell it you at a higher price still? is it some sort of display set?

Right. It was not a display or (technically) an open box item, they just thought they would do the neighborly thing and optimize it for a fee.
The way she asked me was "Oh by the way- it will be another $40 bucks.."
I will just have to find one at another store.

and when they did not ask you before...it should be waived isnt it...considering if you will still be willing to buy the laptop.

it was tough to find one in stock 2 weeks ago, shouldnt be a problem now.

It definitely is a fingerprint magnet. I find myself wiping it down every couple of days . . . not a huge problem for me though. Now, if I could only keep my greasy hands off that beautiful finish . . . :D

I went back to the store at lunch and saw there was another one in the cage. I am currenty opening it up.

Oh my Lord it IS a fingerprint magnet. It is ironic that it has a fingerprint reader for security and the your FPs are all over the thing!

    Pilot,

Thanks for the review I will admit to jamming on the "+" and "-" too.

Have to say I agree with pilot the fingerprint reader program is quiet useful. Although for some reason I find my scanner occasionally not working after coming out of a sleep cycle. But this is rare

I'm at the display model at BB Soho and the trackpad isn't very responsive, maybe it's just this one because the other ones I've tried were fine. Is there any kind of test I can use online to see what this is capable of?

You probably need to get a 3.5mm to RCA cable and plug the 3.5mm into the headphone port and the RCA into the television or stereo receiver.

The biggest complaint I read about was the stiff touchpad. It was initially a deal breaker for me, but I will learn to live with it, now that I bought it. :D

What I really do NOT like is the dip in front of the buttons. That is annoying to me as that is where I usually put my fingers on my older laptop.

All in all, I have been VERY pleased with it.

Anyone have any more luck and pursuing the warranty? Everyone at HP is stating this is a 1 year warranty while Best Buy insists it is two year. Here is the last email I recieved:

    Thank you for your reply.

There is not false advertisement by Best Buy as it pertains to your notebook or our Blue Label program. I researched your customer profile and did not find a record of your purchase so I did not have any information on the notebook you purchased.

Fortunately enough, I realized that you did list the notebooks model number and was able to get the product's SKU number from bestbuy.com by referencing the model number.

I then found that your notebook does have a 2 year parts and labor manufacturer's warranty. However, as I stated before, the terms and conditions of this warranty are set by HP and you will need to consult them for a description of your coverage.

I apologize for the delay and any confusion I may have caused you.

    Sincerely,

    Thomas C.

The manual talks about having to set HDMI as the default audio playback device.

Can't post the link since I'm new but it's on the HP site.

Don't know if this helps but give it a try. I'm getting ready to buy one and this is important to know.

    Hey pilotsnoopy,

I see you've updated the first post of this thread with some cool marketing material. What do you think about also adding some more info to that post, so prospective buyers and owners can get a quick overview of the machine's vital stats? This kind of info could come in handy if/when Best Buy ever removes the product from their web page.

For example, it could include stuff like basic stats about the machine, links to any reviews that come out ( laptopmag.com), a link to HP's dv3510nr support page, etc.

Here are some hardware stats of the dv3510nr:
    • 13.3" WXGA 1280x800 LED-backlit display
    • Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo P7350 (2.00 GHz, 3 MB L2 cache, 1066 MHz FSB)
    • RAM: 4 GB DDR2
    • nVidia GeForce 9300M GS (512 MB)
    • Hard drive: 320 GB, 5400 RPM
    • Intel WiFi 5100 AGN
    • Centrino 2 (Montevina) platform

Here are the Windows Experience Index (WEI) scores:

    Processor 5.3
    Memory 5.9
    Graphics (Aero) 3.6
    Gaming graphics 4.8
    Primary hard disk 5.4
    Overall score 3.6

    Got HDMI sound to work.

Go to sound settings then Playback tab and then enable the option where it says "Digital Sound through HP dock" [ The current default is PC speakers]or something to that affect, just got it to work and watching a movie, will post a more specific title after but it works!!!

the 9300M GS chipset supports hybrid when paired with a 9100/9400 but on the dv3500t there is no integrated graphic card. if there is...battery life will be so much longer...

you mean to say the macbook pro, as the macbook does not have a dedicated graphic card, though the performance of the 9400M on the macbook is the same or even better.

For the short time the 3500 was on HP's website for CTO, the keyboard backlightt was an option you had to upgrade to. Was about $25, I believe...

I bought the dv3000 model for austria (pavilion dv3550eg) yesterday. Our version doesn't have a backlit keyboard :(

Question: Is the fan always running on your systems? I found this "Fan always on"-option in the BIOS and disabled it. but the fan is still running. is there any situation where it turns off? or is is permanently on? i used to have a toshiba m30-344 before and it's fan was not permanently running. even if the noise is not too loud, it irritates me, because i'm not used to it :(

Seems like only HP DV3510nr in USA support keyboard back lite, because no information published anywhere about other models. I found only user manual on HP manuals page where mentioned that this feature is optional.
    cant put link.

Personally I do not understand HP politics why only USA users can use this feature? Its very stupid to make such difference because this option costs +25$ only, for people who decide to buy note book for 1000$ and more its not a problem pay extra money for this coool feature.

And also stupid thing if they do not put back lite to keyboard they should use at least letters with white paint because its very hard to see them even in good lite conditions.

Personally I very disappointed because wan to buy this HP DV3500 some days before and just accidentally find out this.

Suppose that HP in future should put this feature in notebooks in one model line not only in selected countries. Couse this feature can be disabled manually.

About fan in our shops its very quiet and cool not hot.
Maybe bios update or look for cpu load this could help.
