Hi, I also bought the DV3650ES in spain, I also installed windows 7, I asked about bluetooth and they told me that this model don't include it, in fact if you look at the specification of the laptop you will see that there is not a single line about bluetooth.
The thing is in pchub you can buy the bluetooth for the american model, having the same board I think It would be possible to install it on the spanish model.

The only thing is that I still have an unknown device on device manager, but I haven't installed all the drivers so it maybe hp special keys or some software bundled with the laptop.

The next thing I want to try is install leopard 10.5.6, I have found a guide, the only dealbreaker is the wifi, the dv3500 models seems to have a restriction to only work with the default wireless mini pci, I don't know about the spanish version. I will try to replace the wifi with the one of an old laptop if it works I wiil buy the dell supported wireless.

The battery meter don't display the time remaining in this version, this is very common with hp consumer laptop. I have sorted the problem installing a little soft called battery meter. Works great.

The keyboard is terrible as stated, I also hope to replace it with the us backlit one.

The battery usualy last 2 hour when using the dvd drive for some dvd burning, wifi on and brightness at 50 %.

there is a protective plastic that seems to interfere with the dvd drive, I will post picture later, I don't know if this is something common or if I should call HP.

To sum it up I 'm quiet happy with this laptop, Very good value for only 699 euros and I love the look of the laptop.

    Pros:

    Good feel of the keyboard
Sharp led screen, even if it is glossy it isn't that bad in bright environment.
    quiet and cool.
t6400 + 9300m gs good enough for all my tasks, can even max games from before 2006( half life 2, doom 3, etc ...)
    useful remote
at 1.87 kg lighter than macbook alu.
no that thick , even if the specification indicate 3.5 cmd of height the laptop is actually thin, there is just two stands on the back to elevate it a bit for better air flow.
    Cheap.
    320g hard drive.

    Cons.

Can't see anything on the keyboard on low light environments.
Average battery life compared to a macbook alu.
    Average webcam.
    Slow dvd drive.
    No Bluetooth??

Dose anyone know where to get larger capaicity battery for dv3500 I only seem to get 1.5hrs on battery with setting options turned down?

    anyone getting more and how?

seems like hp do a 9 and 12 cell for other models and even the dv3 but not sure if any other will fit.
I dont listen to HP often they even said my US backlit keyboard would never fit or work with mu UK version but its so sweet even readable with light off cant live without the new keyboard and its turned off when I give the 1.5hr battery life.

    cheers

Yay! The keyboard mod worked; I now have a backlight that I can toggle using FN+SPACE. Brilliant.

One question though: my left mouse button (touchpad) seems to be a bit 'fiddly'. When I touch it very lightly, it makes a slight clicking sound, indicating something is loose on the inside.

    Anybody else with this issue?

Looks like VISTA SP2 + new drivers from intel WIFI 5100 improoves wifi N speed with my Linksys WRT-160N. Now average is about 90-130Mbits before was about 65-70mbits :)
Overall system perfomance was better whit SP2 looks like hardware working a litle bit faster!

    Hello Eltidi,

Tx for the info! Also tx to Harddy for all the very good info. Now at least I know Bluetooth is NOT incorporated in the Spanish DV3650ES, if I had known, I would have bought the Bluetooth module as well at PCHUB!
I installed the US keyboard and it works 100% on the DV3650ES, the laptop immediately recognizes the fn+spacebar on/off. You only have to configure it as US keyboard afterwards in Control Panel. The unknown device on device manager is, as far as I know, the touchpad device driver which helps you to “slide” the double lines on the right side of the touchpad ||.
I think I will buy the Bluetooth module as well but installation seems to be more complicated since almost the entire notebook must be dismantled.
Hopefully it will also be possible to change the hard disk by a SSD. To make the notebook even lighter, I just left out the optical dvd drive after having installed all software I need.
    Average I get is also +/- 2.5 to 3hours.
    Cheers

Use VIRTUALBOX or MS virtual PC its free software and much simliest way to make software from diferent OS work inside by installing any OS in VIRTUAL box I personally install XP and WIN 7 in virtual box works perfect. only may be some hardware problems but if you need only to some soft work its more than enough. other functions can be made easyly switching between home OS and box.
As I remember there is no oficial drivers for XP on our notebook. :(

    Thank you for your reply. That is exactly what I did couple of hours after I posted here. I installed VMware and now I am running XP and the software for school is working fine without any problems. Only problem is installing from CD when CD is mounted but I found a workaround for that too. {Get the contents of the CD to the XP environment and run from there}

Is virtualbox or MS Virtual PC better than VMware? :p

I installed win7 full and everything is working perfectly fine, except for the touch-buttons! They respond perfectly fine, with the volume control working ever better than it did under vista. However, the colors dont't change! I can now no longer see on my touchpad whether audio and/or wifi is on or off.

    How to fix?

For instructions on how to replace go here: http://vsslfpro.zcce.compaq.com/plmcontent/NACSC/SML/default.htm

For a dv3650ed: Product category = Laptop and Tablet PCs, Product family = HP Pavilion Notebook PCs, Product series = HP Pavilion dv3500 Entertainment Notebook PC series, Media selection = FRU Remove/Replace. In the screen that opens choose Keyboard.

Hi, did anybody here have any troubles with running windows 7 (32-bit)? Specifically I have what seems to be a graphics glitch where if I let the screen turn off after a set idle time, when I move the cursor and it starts up again the screen freezes, sometimes for 30sec, sometimes for 10mins and sometimes I have to restart!

Now, I have no other problems at all and all my drivers are up to date and if I don't let the screen turn off, just dim, then it doesn't happen.

    Anybody have any ideas? Thanks
