This thread is dedicated to those with the new DV3T, HP's lightest Pavilion based on Intel. Feel free to post your notebook's specs here, as well as any questions, issues or anything that involves the DV3T. Happy Posting! ;)

Yes can we PLEASE post here?! The other forum "DV3t Hits the Site" feels completely unmoderated. There are the same discussions that go on forever:

    - my order config
    - should I get this/that?
    - does it run hot?
    - etc etc

I think we DO need a place for owner's to ask questions or share thoughts w/o questions from people who are still considering buying the DV3T.

I got mine on June 22. It's a nice notebook. No real problems, only seen some with Vista (restoring after installing a few programs). More and more I think about this notebook, I don't know how it will face the elements on my huge college campus!

How long do you all think this notebook will last in a typical university setting? I have astronomy and english classes now registered, and doing other intensive things. I took a visit to the bookstore and they have really good edu discounts on Macs, better than the edu discount on the apple site. And more of my friends I met are Mac converts, so I feel a little bad I got this, even though HP has been really positive.

I have the dv3t, and I'm enjoying mine. I haven't had any issues with it, and I'm hoping it'll at least last me the 4 years of pharmacy school. I'm coming from a mac that I loved but died on me a little while back. I will admit, if you can afford a mac and won't have any compatibility issues, I would go with that. I was given $800 cash and told to buy what I wanted with that, so macs were out of my price range. Also, my school specifically stated that we needed PCs, though I know some students that got mac anyways and are only running into minor compatibility issues. Anyways, if I had the choice, I would have went with a mac. That's just me though. :)

I hope to be joining the club soon! Ordered my DV3T about a week ago, supposed to ship the 21st. I'm also coming from an older Macbook Pro. Bought a bunch of laptops whose screens sucked big time, decided to get the MBP. The screen is great, but with no ability to use Windows Media Center along with the screwy mouse acceleration (even after using Microsoft's driver) I'm back to a PC. My brother's got a cheap $500 Compaq from a year ago that has one of the best laptop keyboards I've felt with no flex in the body anywhere, so I'm assuming an HP will be atleast the same quality :).

Because everyone is used to using this.

Would have been a lot better had that other thread just been renamed considering it has 52 pages of posts and a wealth of information....

    Lance:

It's going to be the same exact thing, considering that thread also had owners asking questions regarding their laptops and posting pictures and what not.... that thread was the owner's lounge. ;)

People are still going to be asking about what configurations they should get and what not. All of a sudden you think they are going to stop because of a different title? lolz.

So, I've been using my computer for about 2 weeks now. I have two complaints. One is that my computer looks like it wasn't put together properly. It's minor, but the dvd tray looks kind of crooked. It's not extremely noticeable, but it bothers me a little.

The second problem is internet connectivity. When I start the computer, it says that the connection is just local with no internet. I have to click on the Network and Sharing Center and correct the problem there. Once it's connected, it stays connected, but it annoys me that I have to do that almost every day.

Other than that, I'm pretty happy with my purchase. I would rate it a 4/5.

Win7 went RTM yesterday, so nVidia will most likely have new drivers soon. My wife's dv3t laptop arrived 2 days ago, and it's perfect so far.

I understand your input. I used to post to that forum too but look how long that is and how much repeated information there is.

Will this thread be different? Who knows. I piggybacked on the OP who created this thread. I think that it's fair to encourage and redirect where we can and take initiative to help owner's where we can.

It's actually not that long when you look at other threads around the forums...

It's not about encouraging or redirecting nor about taking initiative... lolz.

Everyone's situation is slightly different so while from some ways it might appear to be the same information it's actually quite different. Step back far enough and some might wonder why there's an entire discussion board dedicated to laptops since it's all just the same information about hardware and software. :p Besides, look at other threads like the DV4 thread and compare the two, and you will see they are one in the same.

Oh. And no, it won't be any different. Look at the posts here besides ours and you'll realize they mimic the posts in the other threads verbatim. You'll find the same questions and thoughts. Not like there's that many diverse topics to discuss in reality, which is my most of these types of threads mimic each other. :)

thats strange ... i could not find anything related to it in control panel ...

try to make full recovery, if it didnt work then take your dv3 to the workshop [warranty]

note: it did work with me on Linux [Linux Mint] by default.. you can try that & if did not work then its not software problem go directly to the workshop.

just ran into the same problem on my new DV3t with GeForce G 105m, its an easy fix
try to install the drivers you have... it fails... thats ok.
during the failed install, it left the extracted files in a folder.
go to device manager, update the driver, and point it to the folder that installer created.

    hope that helps.

it was written on the config, but did you order it?
    its a $25 option.

they may have put it on the sheet by accident, but if you didnt ask/pay for it...

now if you did pay for it, and Fn + Space doesnt work, contact HP.

that is the correct button combo.

Oh my. Never thought the thread would come alive. Thanks for all those who posted so far! :)

I put up the thread about a month ago since the Dv3t's out and I've short listed it for my next laptop purchase. Well, December at the most. The posts so far are really indicative of some potential problems.

Well, if you want you could PM a mod to have the threads merged or have the previous Dv3t thread renamed. I mean to a point, Lancelot's right. The previous thread should have been an announcement rather than a user one but the it's got those two in tangle as it isn't purely a user nor an announcement thread.

Mine does the same... it's really quite loud. I don't like it at all. I just got it two days ago, going to send it back if I can't find out how to fix it. The 1368 x 768 screen kinda sucks too, don't know if I like that resolution.

    Loving the new laptop
    2 issues:
    1. Anyone know how to turn off the multi-touch feature on the touch pad. Often websites get obnoxiously large or small by mistake if your finger "skids" across the touch pad.

    2. The DVD drive seems quite loud....also had some difficulty with a blockbuster rental last night. Something about the type of drive did not align with the DVD..

Got mine today. Looks beautiful. Immaculate condition out of the box. It is quite beautiful actually. Currently loading SolidWorks on it to see how it handles that.

I also rolled back Vista's display to be more like XP and quite honestly I think it runs just as well as my XP Pro does. Easy to use. Hopefully this thing lasts as long as my zv6000 did!

i bought it from free shop not with ordering, and i think as you said it is just writen on the box ;)
but i hope for that, in battery save mode looking to keybord is really hard, you must turn the display light to max.
light view keyboard is a good option, i recomend it for everyone wants to buy dv3.

I've updated both my HDX18t and my wife's dv3t and neither have exhibited any fan issues. I would contact HP customer service rather than repeatedly asking about it here, since it's obviously only an issue for your machine.

got mine 2 days ago, fans has been working high continuously since out of box, with or without update. mine is P8700 4 gb ram 320 gb 5400rpm HD which should not be hot but it idles at 45 , when load it goes up to 55c, thats a lot for HD, palmrest is very hot!. Also the nvidia G 105m video card.

My fans works from the moment computer is on high and non-stop, quite annoying actually. I even turned the FAN ALWAYS ON option in box, no help. It's going back to it's maker....

I'm in the same boat as you mehdivet. I received my dv3t a couple of days ago and noticed that the fan do run continuously. Although it's not loud, it is noticeable in a quiet room, especially when up close.

This is a question for all the owners of dv3t with no fan issues - when you say "quiet", do you mean completely silent or just minimal noise? Also does your fan run all the time, or does it cut in and out depending on the load?

For some first days it was completely quiet, for example when i brows the net or typing word, there was no sound, it seemed that fan doesn't work. The fan got loud just in turning on of system and loading DVD.
But after few days when windows vista and some HP applications updated, it started to work continually, in low sound but hearable in silent room. I think it is not acceptable, since its CPU is P series, when you brows the net your system must be silent.

For the people with fan noise, which processors/Gpu did you select.
i never even considered it would run with the fan "off"
mine has always run with the fan constantly going but at a low RPM, so it never bugged me.

    i have a C2D P7550 (2.26GHz, 3 MB L2 Cache, 1066MHz FSB)
    and the 512mb GeForce 105m

I have a C2D P8700 (2.53GHz, 3 MB L2 Cache, 1066MHz FSB) and the 512mb GeForce 105m. Mine runs at a low RPM too. I just think it's better to have the fan kick in only when it's needed, than to have it run constantly.

Are others experiencing the same thing?

I've got the P7550 and the GeForce 105M. My brother's $500 15" Compaq with a T3400 and Intel X3100 from last year is completely silent and idles around 40 °C, while my DV3T idles around 50 °C and the fan sounds like it's just been through a hardcore gaming session. My guess is it's the video card that's super hot.

    mine is p7450 2.13 ghz GeFORCE G105M
but i think its not acceptable, fan must work just when you loud games or extensive graphic works or when you play DVD or blu-ray.
running while word or web browsing...it's not good.

Hey folks..I have an unproven theory....I know the HD is on the right side, and now the vent is on the right side as well which can only mean that the video card is also near the vent. Now with HD + 512mb video card both on the same side, perhaps HP programmed the fan to be on all the time to suppress the heat before it gets bad? (Note: I disabled the ALWAYS ON option for fan in bios but its still always on, no difference) I also install vista SP 2 which didnt exacerbate it nor helped it.

At this moment my fan is running continuously, like prev post, its not super loud but audible 5 feet away. Mine is P8700. 4 gb ram 5400rpm HD 512mb G 105m.

Tempe is CPU 33/33 both core,
    HD 49C
    G105 44C

this is just typing this post and idle doing nothing.

I really love this cept for the noies and it get hot sometimes...should I keep? return?....

All these troubling posts are starting to worry me =(. My laptop doesnt need to be Solid Snake silent, just as long as its not whirring like a jet engine. as for heat, a little warmth isnt toooo bad. anyway onto my question....i got 2day shipping and it said it shipped friday but it says that the ETA is wednesday at 10:30.....should i ask for a refund?

    But about fan…
Here I don't have access to hp support center, could any owner that has this access, call them and ask about problem?
