Can HP ship the battery out of U.S.A ?
-
So this is my first post, and it's going to be a ranting one.
I've sent in my HP laptop in twice. Not once everyone, twice, due to fan noise. What's up with my life? I'm a freshmen in college which means I spend time in quiet locations and my laptop doesn't seem ok with that. I specifically remember waiting for my laptop to shut up with its fan noise when I first got it (this was for movies even) and sure enough it did. Then, out of the blue, I hear scratching noise and my fan just won't stop.
I do the logical thing, I send it in. I received it a week late and they said they replaced the USB board. Why I ask? They don't know, they just did. How about my fan? What fan is what they asked. I then sent it in again for another two weeks. This time, a woman called and said they were specifically REPLACING THE FAN. I receive my laptop with a letter saying that nothing was wrong with the laptop and that it met their standards. So I was, who was this mysterious woman I talked to?
I have called HP a minimum or 3 times a day (you probably think I'm kidding but I'm not) and they've put in all these fancy accommodations such as testing it in a quiet room and replacing the fan but honestly, three times in a row sending this thing in? They've had my laptop for a longer time than I've had mine.
The saddest thing about this, as I'm sure all of you know judging from posts, is that this is a tiny thing and almost a bit of a road warrior yet it's making enough noise to make my roommate's 18 inch laptop shut down and hide. Maybe I should just compensate and return this thing in and just get a bigger laptop and just get used to the noise, or should I give HP another third chance? Hell, I have the repair box right next to me here.
Sorry for the long post, but does anyone have a quiet DV3? How the heck does this thing go from super silent to a noise machine within two weeks? What did I do other than watch YouTube videos and listen to music on Pandora? -
I feel like I'm the only one with a quiet one, but maybe that's because I may be one of the few who still browse these boards post-purchase and without any issues. I'd like to hear just how loud the fan gets on some of your machines under normal usage. I've heard mind spin at maximum speed for a second during the hp logo boot screen every time I powered it up with firmware F.06, and once for an extended period of time when the cursed F.07 firmware nearly incinerated my laptop...
I've had mine for over three months now, and it's still behaving pretty much the same. The fan is usually rather inaudible unless I'm doing something more processor intensive and graphically demanding like a Blu-ray or a game... or if I have over 30 tabs open in multiple Firefox windows.
But here's something you can try to deal with fan noise:
Under Processor power management in the Advanced settings for Power options, set the System cooling policy to Passive when it's On battery and Plugged in and see if that helps. You could also cap the maximum processor state to a certain percentage. Core 2 Duo P series processors (1066 MHz FSB) won't clock lower than 1.6GHz, and T series (800MHz) won't clock lower than 1.2GHz. -
I've had my DV3T for over a month now and thought I'd give my two cents on how it's performed as I see some have had a few issues.
I am still running Vista Premium but will upgrade to Windows 7 soon. I changed the fan setting from the "always on" setting in the bios. That did make a difference on how much the fan runs but when I have it plugged in it does cycle on and off frequently--it's never off for a long time. I used to have a Dell Studeo laptop that did the same thing. I wish it didn't run so much but I have gotten used to it.
I think that fan noise loudness can be subjective. I would describe this laptop as having fan noise equivilent to the the Dell Studio 1535 I had. You can definitely hear it but I wouldn't describe it as excessively loud and thankfully it doesn't sound like a hair dryer or anything. It is more noticible though than the later model Dell Studio I recently sold (1555). That laptops fan was very quiet (barely noticable).
I don't have a dedicated video card so maybe that makes a difference in how the fan works. One thing I have noticed on the laptop is that the palmrest gets hot on one side when using Bluetooth. I switched to a regular wireless mouse and it's better.
I have used Pinnacle Studio 12 on the laptop and it rendered a video just fine with the integrated video card but when rendering the display of the progress on the screen is slower than the speed of the actual rendering. Maybe this will be different when I install Windows 7 or maybe it's just a limitation of the integrated card.
I wish the lighted keyboard would turn on automatically when you reboot like the Dell Studio does--that was a neat feature of the Dell. I find I have to turn the keyboard light on manually every time I use it.
The touch buttons on my DV3T work fine. Some people have reported issues. Is this perhaps related to the version of driver installed?
I have noticed that the battery does lose some charge when sitting (I have the 9 cell). Is there something that can prevent that (other than removing the battery when not in use).
Which bios is best? I don't know which version I currently have--laptop was bought in October.
Other than these the laptop has worked flawlessly and I am glad I bought this model. The size is perfect and the only thing I wish I would have done is gotten an integrated video card and a P series processor (couldn't afford these at the time).
I don't think I would describe it as the equivilent of the higher end models but overall its a good general purpose laptop.
Anyway, just thought I'd share my observations... -
Was very Interested in customizing this item over the summer from reading a few post in this thread I am glad i waited since they discontinued the item
-
the DV3 will be back with a touchscreen soon.
right now they trying to sell the dm3 with crappier processor and no optical drives -
Hi! I've come to you because at HP no one could help me, they suck
Hi, I bought a Pavilion dv3t recently with Intel P7550 (@2.26) and Geforce G 105M dedicated graphics card. I think my machine's having some kind of problem with temperatures, because at idle works at 45 °C on the processor and 38 °C in GPU. My brother has the same machine but with a slower T4200 processor (2.0GHz) and runs at 31 °C in idle (it was suposed that P series had lower TDP than T series).
My worst problem begins when running 3D intensive software. Using a stressing suite (StressMyPC for processor and rthdribl for GPU) makes it go up to 94 °C on CPU and 88° on GPU. Playing games I've seen the GPU at 94 °C. On the other side, running StressMyPC on my brother's notebook makes the CPU work at 58 °C. The main difference between his and mine is that his doesn't have dedicated graphics.
Is someone around here with a dv3t with dedicated graphics that could tell me please his temp reads on idle/full. i've used HWMonitor and SIW to read them.
I couldn't find any info about expected temperatures for dv3t with dedicated graphics and upgraded processor (or just the processor/graphics alone)
Thanks in advance! -
CPU Type Mobile DualCore Intel Core 2 Duo P7350, 2000 MHz (7.5 x 267)
Video Adapter NVIDIA GeForce G 105M (512 MB)
my temps from everest...not doing anything intensive...just running utorrent and web...
my idle temps are higher
ive seen my cpu temps go up to 100 celcius when i encode videos... -
Some other guy at HP told me to not worry because ANY processor can go as high as 1000 °C (yes, 1000) and as long as the chassis is not hot everything's fine.
Just for you to know, acording to Intel Core 2 Duo mobile processors can die when higher than 105 °C. That's why i'm worried...
Isn't there someone else more that could give a reference temperature reading? Just to be sure if this is normal operating or both of us have a defective cooling system. -
hi i'm new to this forum. i bought my dv3t in the fall and am preparing to upgrade to windows 7. has anyone done the clean install method and been able to have the original "hp games" installed as well? or is upgrade the only way to preserve that?
thanks in advance -
Hi, I did a clean install of Windows 7. My HP games was gone after install. I would think you'd need to do an upgrade to keep that program on the computer.
I really miss my HP games. I wonder if that software can be downloaded from the customer support part of their website? -
Just noticed that my dv3t won't go to sleep when the Bluetooth mouse (adapter) is plugged in...it goes to sleep for a couple seconds and then roars right back. There are numerous threads about this problem with different manufacturers but most of them seem based on Vista.
I changed the advanced Multimedia power options setting to go to sleep when exchanging media (or some phrase like that) but nothing improved.
Obviously I can just unplug the mouse each time but if there's a way to fix this I'd like to know.
P.S. What other (free) windows support forums do people here recommend? i'm relatively new to the windows world from mac, and find the number of different ways to ask for help on windows to be a little overwhelming. Thanks (pps this is my only windows machine)
P.P.S. Is there a way to bump this post into the general hp forum? It seems like this thread might be too narrow the way it's organized for me when there's a response without constantly reading all the new posts. sorry and thanks -
so i went ahead and ran the windows 7 upgrade using the disks they shipped me. (i figured if it goes awry i can just do a clean install later).
the upgrade process was quite smooth and i did not need to get involved much. so far it seems to run pretty smooth (definitely lost the quirky behaviors noticed with vista). hp games is preserved but they discontinued the vista ultimate extras so those didn't carry over -

Does anyone know if the CD drive is removable on this model? If so is there a place for me to buy an inset. I would love to lose the extra weight when I'm traveling.

has any one had any issues with there audio with this laptop? i just installed windows 7 and installed all the latest drivers and the audio is really glitchy sounding and it does the same thing when i plug in head phones or speakers.. also my laptop when at idle the cpu speed lowers down to about 800MHz and i have read that the intel P series processors wont clock below 1.6GHz that is real weird and it never done this when i had vista Home Premium x64
Edit>
ok i figured out the sound issue it was the latest driver i went back to an older driver that i had downloaded back when i first got this laptop and all is well as far as the sound... but the laptop still is underclocking its self it is still running at idle at 800MHz and a multiplier of x3 and a bus speed of 266 this is strange?? any comments -

I've had my dv3t for about 6 months now. It works great but the fan is one thing that annoys me. It's constantly turning on/off (and I changed the "fan always on"setting in the bios). Has anyone updated the bios on this laptop and noticed a change in the fan?
I think that the fan may be more noticable in this laptop because it's small and thus perhaps seems more loud than in a laptop with a larger case.
The only other complaint I've had is that the plastic seam on the lid encasing the LCD seems loose.
Love the size of this laptop. I wonder why it was discontinued? Too similar to the dv4t perhaps? -

Think the dv3t could fetch a higher price in 2 months when HP no longer has any 13" models?
I am quite pleased with my dv3t right now. With NVIDIA Verde 197.16 drivers for my G105M, it was like my dv3t got a hardware upgrade in a lot of games, not least StarCraft II. -
I've read that a new version of the DV3T will be coming out soon. Does anyone here know more about it? I read on one site that it may have a brushed aluminum case.
I really like my DV3T but would like to get one with a dedicated video card. The new one might even have the new i3, i5 series processors don't you think? -
my hp dv3t has the nvidia 105m and it runs really warm i think average temps is around 50-60c and when i run a anti-virus scan it jumps up to about 70c.... i think ill stay away from dedicated graphics card in a small laptop next time around TT

Hey guys i was wondering if you could help me out with an issue ive been having with my dv3. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Ok so i have a dv3 CTO with the G105m. Ever since the day i received the laptop it has been unable to to output video through the HDMI port. It is driving me INSANE! i have contacted HP customer service 3 times already, they tried to help but could not fix it. each time they said it was a driver issue and each time i downloaded the newest driver updates with no improvement. The VGA port works just fine, i plug it in and it puts out video automatically, but when i connect it to my tv through HDMI nothing happens, nothing pops up on my screen and the computer doesn't detect it.
I've had it for about 8 months. i have yet to send it back to HP for repair because i needed it for school. but now im on summer break so i guess that is my last option. so if you have any ideas that i can try please let me know!
Thanks in advance.
Oh and that dv3-4000 looks nice. wish it would come out here. -
Sometimes when I take my laptop with me I'll open it up and the battery will be at 87-88%...it was fully charged when I left with it, and was asleep the whole time.
Is this some kind of battery leak? It's always around this percentage (when it's not at 100%, where it should be). -
Does any know what's the fastest processor you can put into my DV3t CTO machine? I was thinking about something like P8700 or better.
