Both are new and feature essentially the same components. When configured to my liking the price is nearly identical, so I guess I'm wondering if any of you know why one is superior to the other. Aside from cosmetics, what's the difference?

    Comments?

P.S. - both would feature the dedicated GPU (X700) and same CPU, OS, ect.

In a comparison between the dv1000 and v2000 http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=2077&review=compaq+v2000+hp+dv1000 (same small 12" notebooks from HP / Compaq) the author kept the v2000 -- but only because of two small issues , one with the screen and the other the system clock. I don't know if the dv4000 has the viewing angle issue the dv1000 does and it doesn't even bother some people. I like the look of the dv4000 better to be honest and would go with that based on cosmetics, if the price is different though I'd go with the cheaper one -- they're so similar it almost doesn't matter.

If you're really bold, you could buy both and return one if you get them from a store that has a very liberal return policy.

Bah, I'm not bold unfortunately and ended up ordering the dv4000 about 10 minutes ago. I've got no regrets (at least yet), considering that's the notebook I've been eyeing up for quite some time or at least since I've heard they were going to release it with a dedicated GPU, but I was just more curious than anything.

I'm sure each has their benefits and liabilities when compared head-to-head, and thanks for the reply. I too BTW agree that the cosmetics of the dv4000 are superior, but that's simply a matter of personal preference that may vary among others.
